Previously, on May 1, a Vietnamese American woman went to the Dong Phu Commune Police Station, Chau Thanh District, to report the theft of 60,000 USD, 5 million VND, a cell phone and some documents at her house in Phu Loi Hamlet, Dong Phu Commune.
Through investigation, the Criminal Police Department discovered that Le Minh Trang (54 years old, residing in Ca Mau province), a gardener hired by a Vietnamese overseas woman, showed many suspicious signs, so they invited her in for questioning.
On the same afternoon, Trang admitted to the crime and said that her employer trusted her to send money back to Vietnam many times and asked her to keep it for him.
After that, Trang had the greed to appropriate 47,000 USD from her employer for personal expenses.
Recently, when the overseas Vietnamese woman returned to Vietnam, afraid that the incident would be exposed, on the morning of May 1, Trang continued to steal money, phones, and documents from her employer, hid them in bushes near her house, and then created a fake scene to make the overseas Vietnamese woman believe that all the money she had previously sent to the subject for safekeeping had been stolen.
The police seized foreign currency and Vietnamese currency with a total value of about 300 million VND along with some items at the place where Trang hid them.
The Investigation Police Agency of Hau Giang Provincial Police decided to temporarily detain Trang for further investigation.
