Officially recognized 630 professors and associate professors in 2023

There are 58 more professors and 572 associate professors.

Chairman of the State Council of Professors Nguyen Kim Son has just signed Decision No. 80/QD-HDGSNN recognizing the qualifications for the title of professor and associate professor in 2023 for 630 teachers, including 58 professors and 572 associate professors.

Thus, all candidates whose names are on the list of qualified professors and associate professors in 2023 announced after the 12th meeting of the State Council of Professors for the 2018-2023 term (taking place on November 4 and 5) are now officially recognized.

Previously, the list of 630 candidates was announced within 15 days, and there were no complaints, so the Chairman of the State Council of Professors signed a decision to recognize the qualifications for the title of professor and associate professor in 2023, according to regulations.

After voting, there were 630 qualified candidates for recognition of the title of professor and associate professor in 2023 from 648 candidates proposed by 28 industry/interdisciplinary professor councils.

Of these, 58 candidates met the standards for recognition as professors and 572 candidates met the standards for recognition as associate professors. This means that in the voting round of the State Council of Professors, there were two professor candidates and 16 associate professor candidates who did not meet the standards.

According to the office of the State Council of Professors, this year there were 985 candidates registered for recognition of the title of professor and associate professor, but only 824 candidates submitted their applications.

After the review round of the basic professor councils, 744 candidates were proposed to be submitted to the departmental/interdisciplinary professor council.

After the review by the industry/interdisciplinary professor council, 651 candidates were proposed to meet the standards and sent to the State Council of Professors.

However, 3 associate professor candidates later withdrew, leaving only 648 candidates. In the final round, 18 candidates did not meet the standards.

Thus, compared to 2022, the number of candidates officially recognized as meeting the standards of professor and associate professor has increased sharply. Last year, 383 candidates were recognized as meeting the title standards, including 34 professors and 349 associate professors.

The 3 youngest associate professors are 33 years old, the 3 youngest professors are 39 years old

According to the official list in 2023, the economic sector accounts for the overwhelming number of candidates recognized as meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor with 92 people, including 6 new professors and 86 associate professors.

The three youngest new associate professors in 2023 were all born in 1990 and in the same field of economics, including:

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Nham (major in finance - banking), lecturer of the Faculty of Finance, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; Dr. Phan Thi Thu Hien (major in accounting - auditing), lecturer of the auditing department, Faculty of Accounting - Auditing, Foreign Trade University (Hanoi); Dr. Le Thanh Ha (major in economics), lecturer of the microeconomics department, Faculty of Economics, National Economics University (Hanoi).

The three youngest new professors were all born in 1984, including Mr. Nguyen Dai Hai (Institute of Chemical Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), Mr. Doan Thai Son (Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), and Mr. Tran Xuan Bach (Hanoi Medical University).

Notably, among the new professors this year, Ms. Ta Thi Hoai An - senior researcher at the Institute of Mathematics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) - born in 1972 - became the third female mathematics professor in Vietnam in nearly 70 years.

This year, there are 3 fields and interdisciplinary fields that do not have candidates recognized as meeting the standards for the title of professor: linguistics, history - archaeology - ethnology and literature.

After issuing this decision, the State Council of Professors will request higher education institutions with qualified candidates on the list to organize recognition and award decisions.
