According to the meteorological agency, from April 11 to May 10 is the transitional season, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail... may appear.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issues a monthly climate forecast bulletin (from April 11 to May 10) nationwide.
The bulletin said that in the previous forecast period (March 11 - April 10, 2024), there will be a cold air mass on March 19, a widespread heat wave between March 31 - April 4 in the Northwest region of the North, provinces from Thanh Hoa - Phu Yen; from April 5, the heat wave will decrease and only appear locally.
Notably, due to the influence of cold air on March 19, the Northeast and Central regions had moderate rain, with some places experiencing heavy rain; in Bac Ninh, rainfall was measured at 74.9mm. In the first 10 days of April 2024, there was a widespread shower on April 6-9 in the North and North Central regions.
The Central Highlands region experienced a heat wave lasting from April 3 to 8, earlier than the average of many years.
The Southeast region has been experiencing many days of widespread heat, with some areas experiencing severe heat; from March 26 to April 10, the heat has spread to the western region of the Southeast.
During these heat waves, several stations recorded absolute daily maximum temperatures that exceeded historical values.
Forecast from 11/4 - 10/5/2024
During this period, the average temperature across the country is generally 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the average; in some places in the Northwest, North and North Central regions, it is 2-3 degrees Celsius higher than the average for the same period.
Total rainfall in regions across the country is generally 20-40mm lower than the average; in the Northwest, Central Highlands and South, it is generally 40-80mm lower than the average for the same period.
The meteorological agency warned that during the forecast period, cold air will operate with weak intensity and gradually decrease in frequency. The hot low pressure in the West will gradually become stronger, so the heat will tend to increase more in the Northern, North and North Central regions.
The rainy season in the Central Highlands - Southern region has not shown any signs of starting and the region continues to experience many days of widespread heat, with some places experiencing severe heat.
Nationwide, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail continue to appear.
According to the meteorological agency, from April 11 to May 10 is the transitional season, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail can greatly affect production and people's activities.
The lack of rain and the possibility of higher-than-average heat waves in areas across the country could lead to a high risk of prolonged drought, water shortages and potentially very high fire risks, especially in the Central Highlands and Southern regions.
