With a convincing 21-16 victory over the Philippines, the Vietnamese women's 3x3 basketball team proudly won a historic gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games.
This is the historic gold medal of Vietnamese women's 3x3 basketball at the SEA Games arena.
In the list of 4 players who just won the 3x3 event in Cambodia, there are 3 who were runners-up at the 31st SEA Games. They are Huynh Thi Ngoan and twin sisters Truong Thao My and Truong Thao Vy (Truong Twins). Meanwhile, Tieu Duy replaced Tran Thi Anh Dao's position in last year's squad.
Born in 1992, Huynh Thi Ngoan is the "big sister" of the Vietnamese women's 3x3 basketball team and currently plays for Ho Chi Minh City Club. She has been the captain of the national team for many years. Huynh Thi Ngoan is 1m72 tall, plays as a defender and has impressive ball control and shooting ability from many positions.
At the 2022 ABL 3x3 tournament, Huynh Thi Ngoan, Tran Thi Anh Dao and the Truong sisters won the championship. Immediately after that, this team won the silver medal at the 31st SEA Games. A year later, Huynh Thi Ngoan and her teammates changed the color of the medal when they eliminated Thailand in the semi-finals and the Philippines in the finals.
Truong Thao Vy (Kaylynne Truong) has Vietnamese parents, but currently lives in the US and plays for Gonzaga University. She and her twin sister Truong Thao My were born on July 10, 2001 in Houston (Texas, USA). The two sisters inherited their love of basketball from their father - Mr. Truong Man, who has been playing basketball since he was 5 years old.
Thao Vy is 1m77 tall and plays the position of Point Guard. While studying high school in Jersey Village, she was in the Top 30 best point guards in the US in women's high school basketball. In the 2023 NCAA season, Thao Vy played extremely explosively, helping Gonzaga University win the Regular Season Championship and she herself won the title of Best Player of the Year in the West Coast region of the US.
Compared to her sister Thao Vy, Thao My is a bit shorter (1m75) and plays as a point guard. While Thao Vy is a scoring guard, Thao My is highly regarded for her tactical vision, good dribbling ability, and ability to properly regulate the team's play.
Meanwhile, the 2002-born shooter Nguyen Thi Tieu Duy is also one of the most notable young talents of Vietnamese women's basketball at present. Tieu Duy is 1m74 tall with impressive scoring ability and good defense.
Tieu Duy started to emerge from the U16 Asian tournament with the title of best player. Last year, despite her young age, Tieu Duy was a pillar of the Vietnamese women's basketball team that won 4th place at the 31st SEA Games. After that, she was transferred to the 3x3 basketball team and recently won the championship at the 2023 Asia Tour.
