Developing green transport is considered the "key" in solving environmental pollution. By greening roads, deploying electric taxis, building walking streets... Hai Duong is making efforts towards the goal of green transport.

Greening the roads

Every time she goes to work on Provincial Road 392, from Chuong Street (Thanh Mien) - Bong Intersection (Gia Loc) with its green shade, Ms. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc (in Dong Xuyen Commune, Ninh Giang) slows down to enjoy the shade under the trees, feeling relaxed. Ms. Ngoc shared: "When I go through the green roads, I feel very fresh and comfortable. Green trees are truly a treasure that helps to soothe the summer heat."

Because she loved the beautiful road with rows of trees on both sides, Ngoc took a few pictures to post on social media. Her friends in many other provinces and cities commented, giving compliments to the road.

According to the Department of Transport, from 2012 to the end of 2022, the department has organized the planting of nearly 94,400 trees on both sides of provincial roads, including eucalyptus, acacia, and casuarina. These are taproot trees, easy to grow, do not affect the road surface, and are suitable for the climate and weather. Currently, the system of trees on both sides of provincial roads is developing well. Some routes have many trees such as roads 390, 389B, 395, 392... On some routes, the trees have grown to a height of 8 - 10 m, with a root diameter of about 15-20 cm. In the summer, trees on both sides of the road create shade, reduce road surface temperature, thereby preventing "aging" of asphalt, improving road durability, creating green landscapes, minimizing noise, purifying the air to help reduce environmental pollution and creating a comfortable feeling for traffic participants.

By the end of 2022, the whole province will have more than 1.46 million vehicles, including more than 112,500 cars and nearly 1.35 million motorbikes and electric motorbikes. That is not to mention vehicles from other provinces and cities participating in traffic in Hai Duong. Although the traffic density is not too large and the problem of pollution from vehicle emissions is not as high as in big cities, in Hai Duong during rush hours, at the gates of companies, factories, enterprises, and school gates, congestion and overloading often occur. Developing green forms of transport to replace motor vehicles is a solution for the present and also a trend for the future.

On June 15, 2022, Xuan Quynh Company Limited in Quang Phuc Commune (Tu Ky) started to deploy an electric taxi service including 8 Vinfast VFe34 cars to pick up and drop off passengers from Hai Duong City to Noi Bai Airport and vice versa. This is one of the leading units in the province to deploy electric car services to serve passengers. According to the company's statistics, each month the unit serves about 3,600 passengers, with a price of 650,000 VND/way/4-seat car from Hai Duong City - Noi Bai. Mr. Pham Xuan Quynh, Director of Xuan Quynh Company Limited said, "We choose to invest in electric cars according to the future trend of green, environmentally friendly travel. Using electric cars is more economical than running on gasoline and the maintenance cost is also lower than running on gasoline. The goal of the business is to bring passengers a new travel experience without engine noise, no smell of gasoline, contributing to environmental protection". After nearly 1 year of operating electric vehicles, the vehicles are operating stably. In 2023, the company will continue to order 20 more VFe34 vehicles from Vinfast to serve more customers.

At the end of April, Hai Duong City opened a walking street and Bach Dang night market. This street not only has economic and cultural significance, but the construction of the walking street also sends a message to encourage the expansion of the walking movement among the people.

From greening roads, deploying electric taxis, building walking streets... Hai Duong is making efforts every day towards the goal of green transportation. To participate in green - clean - safe transportation, it is necessary to have the support and consensus of each citizen. First of all, it is necessary to increase propaganda so that people realize the benefits of green transportation, gradually changing the habit of traveling by personal motor vehicles to bicycles, public transportation, walking to reduce the risk of accidents, traffic jams and environmental pollution.
