90 "breathtaking" minutes to rescue a 5-year-old boy from the hands of a mentally ill man

Police force of Ha Hoa district (Phu Tho) successfully rescued a 5-year-old boy from the control of a mentally ill subject.

On the afternoon of October 3, Phu Tho Provincial Police confirmed the above information.

Previously, at around 7:00 a.m. on October 3, Xuan Ang Commune Police received a report from the public that Nguyen Van S. (33 years old, residing in Xuan Ang Commune) used a weapon to hold Hoang Anh M. (5 years old) to his neck, restrain him, and beat him. Afterwards, the subject took M. to the 2nd floor, closed the door, and barricaded himself in the room.

Immediately after learning about the incident, Colonel Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of Phu Tho Provincial Police, requested the rescue force to ensure the safety of child M.

Police determined that Nguyen Van S. is a mentally ill person currently being treated at home and often has abnormal psychological developments and is easily agitated.

To rescue the child, Ha Hoa District Police mobilized 30 officers and soldiers equipped with safety equipment and support tools, divided into 2 rescue teams to approach the scene and quickly deploy professional measures.

One group quickly broke into the first floor and went up to the second floor, the other group used an aluminum ladder to reach the second floor. After more than 90 minutes, seeing a favorable opportunity, the two groups simultaneously approached, controlled the subject and safely rescued M.

Afterwards, the police force coordinated with the family to take M. to the medical center for a health check, encouragement, support, and mental reassurance; at the same time, urgently verified and took statements from the subject and related people to consolidate the case file and handle it according to the provisions of the law.
