On the evening of October 1, the leader of Vinh Hien Border Post (Border Guard Command of Thua Thien - Hue province) said that in the afternoon of the same day, a tragic drowning incident occurred in Giang Hai commune, Phu Loc district.
Currently, authorities have found the body of one student, but another is still missing.
According to initial information, at around 3:50 p.m. on October 1, a group of eight ninth-grade students from Lam Mong Quang Secondary School (Vinh My Commune, Phu Loc District) went swimming at the beach in Village 3, Giang Hai Commune. Afterwards, Nguyen Huynh Phuc T. (born in 2008) and Nguyen Van H. (born in 2009) drowned.
Upon receiving the news, Vinh Hien Border Guard Station coordinated with local authorities and residents to mobilize 4 fishing boats and hundreds of people to participate in the search and rescue. At around 5:45 p.m. the same day, authorities found the body of Nguyen Van H.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Xuan Trinh, Head of Vinh Hien Border Guard Station, said that forces are currently setting up nets in the sea and going along the coast to search for the missing student. However, the waves in this area are large, making the search difficult. The area where the drowning occurred is a daily bathing beach for local people.
