A serious mine accident occurred at around 10:10 p.m. on July 29 at the Hon Gai Coal Company (Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province), killing five workers, including one from Ninh Giang (Hai Duong).
Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) said that at about 10:10 p.m. on July 29, at the ZH1600/16/24 frame-type hydraulic support furnace at level -110, seam 12, part of the Suoi Lai mine expansion project (phase I), Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV, Ha Long City, a group of 5 workers suddenly had an accident while working.
By 5:28 a.m. on July 30, the search and rescue effort had ended and the incident had left five workers dead.
The five victims include: Bui Van Dai (born in 1985, from Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh), residing in Hong Ha ward, Ha Long city; Giang A Co (born in 1994, from Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province); Be Van Quyen (born in 1991, from Trang Dinh district, Lang Son province); To Xuan Toan (born in 2001, from Yen Khanh district, Ninh Binh province); Vu Van Hiep (born in 1977, from Van Phuc commune, Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong province).
On the morning of July 30, Mr. Pham Trung Nhoang, Chairman of Van Phuc Commune People's Committee, said: "Mr. Vu Van Hiep has worked in the coal industry in Quang Ninh for about 27 years. Mr. Hiep's wife and 2 children live in Vinh Hoa commune, Ninh Giang district."
Immediately after receiving the information, Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Xuan Ky directed the relevant agencies to be present at the scene to coordinate with the Chairman of the Board of Members of the Group, the General Director and senior leaders of the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group to promptly direct the mine rescue forces to carry out rescue work.
The cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities according to regulations.
In the immediate future, the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group will support 20 million VND/deceased worker; the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Union will support 20 million VND/deceased worker. The Hon Gai Coal Company will handle the regimes according to State regulations; arrange funeral expenses for workers and support workers' families with an initial level of 100 million VND/family.
