On April 12, a representative of the provincial Center for Disease Control confirmed a cluster of chickenpox cases at Gia Xuyen Primary School (Hai Duong City) with 53 sick students.
On April 3, the first case was identified as a male student in class 3B, in Tranh Dau village with symptoms of fever and fatigue. On April 4, this student developed blister-like rashes all over his body, was examined by the Commune Health Station and diagnosed with chickenpox.
As of April 12, the entire school recorded 53 infected students who were quarantined at home, mainly in grades 2 and 3, and currently 3 students have recovered. Of the infected students, 40 have not been vaccinated, the rest have only received the first dose of the vaccine.
Gia Xuyen Primary School has 839 students in 25 classes.
The provincial Center for Disease Control has monitored and evaluated the school's epidemic prevention activities; required the school to continue to monitor and detect suspected and new cases for timely isolation to avoid spreading to other students. This is the third outbreak of chickenpox recorded in Hai Duong province. In January, outbreaks were recorded at Pham Tran Primary School (Gia Loc) and Thanh Lang Primary School (Thanh Ha).
As of April 12, the whole province recorded 162 people with chickenpox, mainly primary school students.
