On the afternoon of October 16, Hanoi City Police informed the press about the initial investigation results of the case of a girl who was murdered and her body dumped in the Red River. The victim was HYN, who was the runner-up of a beauty pageant.
Hanoi City Police said that at 12:30 on October 13, Hotline 113 received a report from the public about the discovery of some human body parts on the bank of the Red River in the Ban Temple area, Giang Cao Village 2, Bat Trang Commune, Gia Lam District, Hanoi.
Determining that the incident was of a particularly serious nature, the Director of the City Police reported to the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security and assigned the Deputy Director - Head of the City Police Investigation Agency to directly go to the scene to direct professional units to coordinate with the Hanoi People's Procuracy and the Gia Lam District People's Procuracy to protect, examine the scene, conduct forensic autopsy and organize investigation activities according to the law.
At the scene, authorities seized body parts that had been dismembered. An autopsy determined that the victim was a female, about 20 years old, naked, and in an advanced stage of decomposition. The victim died from acute blood loss caused by two puncture wounds to the upper lobe of the right lung and the heart wall.
The subject's behavior has caused difficulties in verifying and identifying the victim's whereabouts, demonstrating the subject's brutality, causing confusion among the public, and negatively affecting security and order in the capital.
After the investigation, at 11:30 a.m. on October 14, the Investigation Agency identified the victim as Ms. HYN (born in 2006; residing in Group 2, Ngoc Ha Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi).
At 11:00 p.m. the same day, after more than 34 hours of active investigation, the authorities arrested the perpetrator, Ta Duy Khanh (born in 1985; residing in an urban area in Da Ton, Gia Lam, Hanoi).
At the Investigation Agency, Khanh confessed that he had made an appointment with Ms. N. to come over to his house. There, Khanh and Ms. N. had a conflict, so Khanh took a sharp knife (a knife about 4cm wide, with a sharp blade) and stabbed Ms. N. many times in the chest.
After Ms. N. died, Khanh used a knife to cut Ms. N.'s body into many parts, then put all the body parts inside a white styrofoam box and sealed it with tape.
Khanh called the Long Bien taxi company's switchboard and hired a taxi driven by Mr. LNT. Khanh carried a styrofoam box (containing Ms. N.'s body) to Mieu Ban, in Giang Cao village, Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi.
When reaching the steps leading up to the Red River, in the Mieu Ban area, Giang Cao village, Khanh told Mr. T. to stop the car and asked Mr. T. to help carry the styrofoam box down the car, leaving the styrofoam box at the steps. When Mr. T. drove away, Khanh alone carried the styrofoam box containing Ms. N.'s body down to the Red River to dispose of the body (Khanh threw some body parts into the Red River and buried the other body parts on the edge of the Red River).
Upon returning home, Khanh took a Honda Air Blade motorbike, license plate 17B7-342.63, went to Thanh Tri bridge and threw Ms. N's two phones into the Red River, and hid Ms. N's handbag and sandals at a motel in Hamlet 2, Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam, Hanoi (The investigation agency seized the handbag and sandals).
On the afternoon of October 12, fearing that Ms. N's body would be discovered, Khanh went to the market near the Da Ton intersection, Gia Lam, Hanoi to buy cement and bring it to the area where Ms. N's body was hidden with the purpose of covering the area with cement.
Because the area where the body was hidden was crowded, Khanh brought cement home.
At dawn on October 13, Khanh returned alone to the location where Ms. N.'s body was hidden and poured cement over it to hide it. On the afternoon of October 13, 2023, when he learned that the police had discovered Ms. N.'s body, Khanh took a bus at Giap Bat bus station and fled to Thai Binh.
At 11 p.m. on October 14, authorities discovered and arrested Ta Duy Khanh while he was hiding at his private home in Dong Thai commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province.
During the arrest, Khanh attempted suicide with a knife, but was subdued by the police and taken to Thai Binh General Hospital for emergency treatment. He is now conscious and has confessed to his crime.
On the same day, the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Ta Duy Khanh for the crime of "Murder" under Article 123 of the Penal Code; at the same time, continue to investigate, clarify the behavior, motive, purpose and other criminal acts (if any) of the subject to strictly handle according to the provisions of the law, not letting criminals escape.
