Selling pressure spiked in the last few minutes of the session on June 14, causing the VN-Index to drop more than 20 points, losing the 1,300-point mark.
Stocks opened the final session of the week in the green. The VN-Index fluctuated above the reference level in the morning and the first half of the afternoon session, a common occurrence in trading sessions after breaking through resistance. However, the peaceful period did not last long.
The HoSE index fell a beat before 2 p.m., then quickly pulled back to the reference. However, the pressure increased immediately after that, causing the market to plummet. Selling pressure increased rapidly across the market, forcing many stocks to fall deeply. In just a few minutes before the ATC session and 15 minutes of matching orders to determine the closing price, the VN-Index "evaporated" more than 20 points.
At the end of the session, the HoSE index fell 21.6 points (1.66%), below the 1,280-point threshold. The VN30-Index fell more than 17 points (1.3%), to 1,316.46 points.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost 1.8%, while the UPCOM-Index also fell nearly 1%.
Market liquidity increased sharply due to selling pressure at the end of the session. Trading value on HoSE reached over VND29,000 billion, of which the bluechip group was over VND10,000 billion.
At the end of the session, the HoSE floor had 366 stocks decreasing in price, compared to 98 stocks increasing. In the VN30 group alone, 28/30 large-cap stocks closed the session in red.
In the bluechip group, GVR fell nearly to the floor price, losing 6.7%, PLX fell more than 4%, VPB, STB, CTG were 3% lower than the reference. Sabeco's SAB shares also fell sharply, losing 3.4% after news that beer and alcohol might be subject to an increase in special consumption tax.
FPT and SSB were the two codes that kept green at the end of the session, with SSB increasing by 1.4%, and FPT adding 0.8%.
In the mid-cap group, red also covered the board. Real estate, retail, construction, and securities mostly fell deeply. In the real estate group, PDR, NVL, SCR, QCG, DXG decreased by 1-4%. The securities group, such as AGR, VCI, FTS, PSI, CTS, fell deeply, with some codes losing 5-6%.
