Digital content copyright infringement is occurring at a high rate, with increasingly serious and complex nature and an increasingly wide scope.

On the morning of September 13, the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Digital Media Association and the People's Representative Newspaper organized a workshop on Protecting press copyright in the digital environment.

The 4.0 industrial revolution has been strongly influencing the development of the press industry. Especially in the digital age, the issue of copyright of press works faces many new challenges.

Digital content copyright infringement is widespread and growing in severity, complexity, and scope. This affects the revenue, reputation, and brand of press agencies as well as the digital transformation of journalism.

Therefore, copyright protection is an urgent issue for press agencies and requires comprehensive and synchronous solutions to achieve the highest efficiency.

Workshop on Protecting Press Copyright in Digital Environment, morning of September 13

In such a context, the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Vietnam Digital Communications Association and the People's Representative Newspaper jointly organized a workshop on "Protecting press copyright in the digital environment" on the morning of September 13, aiming to clarify the current situation of copyright infringement of press works; at the same time, discuss and find effective solutions to protect press copyright, especially in the digital environment.

The workshop also aims to improve the capacity to protect and exploit copyright of press works in the digital age for editorial offices and journalists; at the same time, contribute to the process of perfecting the legal framework on copyright.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Trong Dung affirmed: “Protecting copyright will promote creativity and motivate journalists and press agencies to invest in content development projects and journalism innovation projects.

Protecting press copyright is a prerequisite to protect the financial resources of press agencies as well as effectively implementing digital content business models, contributing to solving the current economic problem of press and media.

Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Trong Dung delivered the opening speech at the conference.

Delegates attending the workshop identified acts of copyright infringement: Copyright appropriation; copyright impersonation (for example, impersonating the brand of Vietnam Television (VTV) or fake websites impersonating electronic newspapers - with almost identical content and interface, only slightly different domain names); distributing and publishing fake works, works and copies of works without permission; editing, cutting, creating derivative works without the author's consent; using works without paying royalties.

The speakers discussed and proposed solutions to help protect press copyright in the digital environment most effectively. In particular, the speakers emphasized the importance of technological solutions and proposed many recommendations to improve the legal framework for copyright protection.

Within the framework of the workshop, there was also a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Digital Communications Association on "Improving capacity and knowledge of copyright law enforcement, disseminating knowledge and cultural ethics of press agencies in enforcing copyright protection of press works".
