VFF plans to announce the head coach of the Vietnam national team in early May, Mr. Kim Sang-sik is mentioned.

"The negotiations regarding the new coach of the Vietnam national team have not been concluded. If everything is completed, on the afternoon of May 3, the Vietnam Football Federation will have a press release about the identity of the new coach of the Vietnam national team," said VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi.

Earlier, on the morning of April 29, Korean media reported that coach Kim Sang-sik and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) reached a contract agreement. The two sides signed a two-year contract, until March 2026. Mr. Kim will visit Vietnam this weekend to get acquainted with his new job.

Coach Kim Sang-sik is one of the first people mentioned in the list of candidates to lead the Vietnamese team, after the VFF reached an agreement to terminate the contract with coach Philippe Troussier.

VFF quickly compiled a list of candidates and selected the person who met the criteria. In an official announcement at the end of March, VFF affirmed that it would try to find an official coach before FIFA Days in June. If not, the federation would consider using an interim coach like in 2017 when the position of head coach of the national team was temporarily assigned to coach Mai Duc Chung.

The national team head coach will be considered and evaluated based on criteria of prestige, professional qualifications and, importantly, suitability for Vietnamese football.

Mr. Kim Sang-sik is a former South Korean player. He won many titles at the club level. Mr. Kim was also part of the South Korean team that participated in the 2006 World Cup.

In 2013, he retired and moved into coaching. He was an assistant at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club and won 6 K.League titles. As head coach of the team, Mr. Kim won the 2021 K.League and the 2022 National Cup.

Mr. Kim Sang-sik received the title of best coach of K.League 2021, best coach of Korea Football Federation 2021 and best coach of National Cup 2022.
