New coach Ruben Amorim decided to remove Ruud van Nistelrooy from Man Utd's coaching staff.
Less than 24 hours after his final victory with Sporting Lisbon, Amorim arrived in Manchester on the afternoon of November 11.
Immediately after taking office, Amorim worked with the Man Utd board on the future of Van Nistelrooy - who has been the interim coach of the first team for the last four matches.
Van Nistelrooy had hoped to continue as an assistant coach in the new coaching staff, as he had under Erik ten Hag. However, Amorim seems to have other plans.
"Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy will leave the club," a statement from Man Utd read. "Ruud is and will always be a Man Utd legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way he has handled his role during his time at the club. Ruud will always be welcome at Old Trafford."
Van Nistelrooy played for Man Utd from 2001 to 2006, scoring a total of 150 goals in 219 matches in all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.
The 48-year-old former striker began his coaching career with PSV's youth team in 2021, before leading the first team from May 2022 to May 2023, winning the Dutch Super Cup and Dutch Cup.
This summer, he returned to Man Utd as assistant to Erik ten Hag and was appointed as interim coach after the Dutch strategist was fired on October 28.
Sunday's 3-0 Premier League win over Leicester City was Van Nistelrooy's final game with Man Utd.
Before that, he and his players beat Leicester City (5-2 in the League Cup), PAOK (2-0 in the Europa League group stage) and drew with Chelsea (1-1 in the Premier League).
Amorim will take charge of Man Utd for the first time on 24 November, against Ipswich Town in the Premier League. His first home game will be against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on 28 November.
Amorim began his coaching career in 2018 in Portugal, winning the Portuguese Cup with Braga, two league titles, two Portuguese Cups and a Portuguese Super Cup with Sporting. He is considered one of the most talented coaches in Europe today.
