Man Utd and the mission to defeat Chelsea

Having just parted ways with coach Erik ten Hag, Man Utd has almost completely transformed under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Old Trafford team beat Leicester 5-2 in the League Cup to book a ticket to the quarter-finals. This match also witnessed excellent performances from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

This is the first time the Red Devils have scored 5 goals against an opponent in a match since August 2021. The victory over Leicester is a good stepping stone for Man Utd to welcome Chelsea.

Man Utd are not in good form in the 2024-2025 Premier League. After 9 matches, they only have 11 points, ranking 13th. The Red Devils' ability to convert opportunities into goals is also the worst in the league.

The last time they played Man Utd, Chelsea won dramatically 4-3 at home. The problem for the London representative is that they have not won 2 consecutive matches against Man Utd since March 2011.

Coach Maresca is determined to break the poor streak against Man Utd. He did not register Nicolas Jackson to play, leaving Palmer on the bench for the loss to Newcastle in the middle of the week, to prepare the best for the trip to Old Trafford.

Chelsea are still the favourites overall, but historical stats favour Man Utd.

Casemiro is likely to start, as he has scored 3 goals in his last 2 matches. Since moving to Man Utd, the Brazilian midfielder has also scored 2 goals against Chelsea.

Manuel Ugarte will continue to sit on the bench. Accompanying Casemiro in midfield is Christian Eriksen.

On Chelsea's side, Jadon Sancho is sick and will definitely be absent. This is a big loss for Chelsea because the English star has been playing well since joining the team.
