The People's Committee of Van Don district, Quang Ninh province has asked tourists not to bring disposable plastic products to the island communes.
Information from the People's Committee of Van Don district, Quang Ninh province said that this locality has just issued a plan to reduce single-use plastic products in five island communes in Van Don district.
Accordingly, from April 27, tourists coming to five island communes: Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung, Thang Loi, Ban Sen will not be allowed to bring single-use plastic products.
Tourists and residents will be supported to use recycled, environmentally friendly products to replace plastic bags.
At Ao Tien International Passenger Port (Cai Rong) and 6 ports in five island communes, billboards and posters with the theme "Do not bring plastic waste to the island" were installed synchronously to propagate and encourage tourists to leave plastic waste (bottles, cups, plastic bags) right at the gathering area at the entrance and exit gates to the island.
The program "Say no to disposable plastic products" was deployed by Van Don district right from the April 30 and May 1 holidays to widely propagate to people and tourists, helping to raise awareness about the risk of plastic waste pollution.
At the same time, call on the community to change their behavior and habits of using plastic products and disposable plastic bags, contributing to reducing environmental pollution, protecting the ecosystem and building a green and sustainable tourism industry.
In order for the program to be implemented widely and effectively, the People's Committee of Van Don district mobilized the participation of many units, especially the role of tourism associations, transport businesses and the business community in ensuring a green living environment and tourism environment.
Van Don district strives to reduce 50% of plastic waste in the communes of Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung, Thang Loi, and Ban Sen by 2025. By 2030, there will be no more plastic waste in the island communes.
This step by Van Don district, along with Co To island district, Quang Ninh province, was previously considered a concrete step in building a green and friendly tourist destination.
Previously, from September 15, 2023, Co To island district requested that tourists not bring disposable plastic products to this island district.
