Da Lat, Nha Trang, Vung Tau and Phu Quoc - famous tourist destinations, are all proposed to keep their names in the plan to arrange commune-level administrative units.
According to the proposal of the People's Committee Da Lat city, 16 wards and communes in the area will be arranged into 2 to 4 commune-level administrative units of Lam Dong province. In the 3 options, Da Lat will be kept in the administrative name.
Specifically, option 1 establishes 3 wards: Da Lat; Nam Ho (or Xuan Truong) and Cam Ly; option 2 divides the locality into 4 wards: Da Lat, Cam Ly, Xuan Huong, Nam Ho (or Xuan Truong); option 3 merges administrative units into 2 large wards: Da Lat and Nam Ho (or Xuan Truong).
Da Lat covers an area of over 391 km2, with an estimated population of over 280,000 people in 2024. Of these, about 233,000 have permanent residence, while the rest are temporary residents, mainly students and migrant workers. After more than a century of development, this place is not only a favorite tourist destination with the title "City of a Thousand Flowers" but also an important center of scientific research and education in the Central Highlands.
Similar,Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa),over 252 km2, including 14 wards, 8 communes with a population of over 434,000 people (2024 data) proposed arrangement plan with two wards, Nha Trang and one ward whose name has not been decided. "It is expected that Cai Nha Trang River will be the boundary between the two wards," said Mr. Vo Chi Vuong, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Home Affairs.
According to Mr. Vuong, in the plan to reorganize communes and wards, the general policy of the province will be to keep at least one name typical of each locality. For example, the names of districts, cities and towns such as Ninh Hoa, Cam Ranh, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Van Ninh, Cam Lam will be changed to wards with similar names.
The leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Home Affairs said that this is the direction for localities when drafting, and during the implementation process, it will be based on reality to do. Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang)It is expected that the arrangement will have 2 or 3 basic administrative units and still keep the name Phu Quoc for the new unit. Currently, the coastal city has 7 communes and 2 wards with an area of over 580 km2 and a population of over 161,000 people.
With option 1, Phu Quoc City People's Committee proposed to reorganize 8 communes and wards (Ganh Dau, Bai Thom, Cua Can, Cua Duong, Duong To, Ham Ninh communes, Duong Dong ward, An Thoi ward) into one grassroots administrative unit.
The new name after the arrangement is Phu Quoc special zone, the headquarters is located at the existing Phu Quoc City People's Committee, later it can be relocated to the East of the old airport. Tho Chau island commune will maintain its current status (area of nearly 14 km2, population of more than 1,800 people) with the new name being Tho Chau special zone, the new agency is located at the existing Tho Chu commune People's Committee.
Option 2: Keep Tho Chau island commune as in option 1; arrange the remaining 8 administrative units into two special zones named North Phu Quoc special zone and South Phu Quoc special zone.
In which, the North Phu Quoc special zone includes: Ganh Dau commune, Cua Can, Bai Thom, Cua Duong, Duong Dong ward, part of Duong To commune and part of Ham Ninh commune, total area of 450 km2, population of more than 81,600 people. The South Phu Quoc special zone includes: An Thoi ward and part of Duong To and Ham Ninh communes, area of 125 km2, population of more than 69,500 people.
According to Phu Quoc City People's Committee, the proposed plan is based on criteria on area, population size, national defense and security issues, especially history, and development orientation according to planning.
Ba Ria - Vung TauOn March 24, a conference was held to deploy a roadmap for the arrangement and reorganization of commune-level administrative units. Accordingly, the development of the arrangement plan will be completed before April 30.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Hoang, Chairman of Vung Tau City People's Committee, said that although there is no specific arrangement plan, the city will propose to keep the name Vung Tau when dividing into wards. "We will try to choose familiar names such as Vung Tau, Thang Nhat, Thang Nhi... because they are associated with history and have become tourism brands for a long time," he said.

According to Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra, the merger of commune-level administrative units will be completed before June 30 and the new communes and wards will be put into operation from July 1. The provinces and cities will complete the merger before August 30 and will be put into operation from September.
