Winlife snatching

Seeing the peach blossoms at the unit starting to bloom to welcome spring, the doctors and nurses of Military Hospital 7 were moved to remember the days of duty, celebrating Tet on Phan Vinh Island in Truong Sa archipelago.

Lieutenant Colonel, Specialist Doctor I Trinh Thien Ke, Head of the Rehabilitation Department, is still very emotional every time he talks about his time working here. From August 2022 to August 2023, the medical team of Military Hospital 7, including 1 doctor and 3 nurses, will work on Phan Vinh Island. Doctor Trinh Thien Ke will be the head of the infirmary.

Here, the medical team performed special surgeries to save the lives of soldiers and fishermen in conditions of inadequate facilities. In a record-breaking week, they performed emergency surgeries on 3 cases of appendicitis.

Among them, the emergency case of patient Ho Sy Thuy (61 years old, from Ninh Thuan province) was the most complicated. The patient was a sailor who was brought to the emergency room with abdominal pain that lasted for many hours. Through clinical examination, the doctor diagnosed the patient with acute appendicitis at the 11th hour and decided to operate immediately. During the surgery, the doctor discovered that the cecum was higher than normal, the appendix was twisted behind the cecum, showing signs of purulent inflammation and pseudomembrane formation.

Although this was a complicated case, with extensive professional experience, Dr. Ke and the surgical team performed the surgery successfully. After a week of treatment, the patient's health stabilized and he was discharged from the hospital.

Being on duty at Truong Sa archipelago is a “heart’s command”, an honor and pride for Lieutenant Colonel, Specialist Doctor I Tran Dang Khoa, Head of the Oncology Department, Head of the Nursing Department of Military Hospital 7. Doctor Khoa worked here from July 2020 to September 2021.

According to Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Tran Dang Khoa, the medical team of Military Hospital 7 not only provides medical care for Phan Vinh Island but is also the rear line, responsible for basic treatment for neighboring islands such as Thuyen Chai, Nui Le, Toc Tan, Tien Nu, etc. The islands and island points are scattered and far apart.

“The infirmary does not have many modern specialized equipment to support diagnosis and treatment like on the mainland, so doctors and nurses must have the ability to diagnose and handle situations well. "Before working on the island, doctors and nurses are trained and further educated to improve their ability to independently diagnose and treat patients. The more difficult and arduous the task, the more we hone our medical ethics and determination to help our medical team complete their tasks excellently," said Dr. Tran Dang Khoa.

Amidst the difficulties and challenges at the forefront, the thoughts and actions of the military doctors here illuminate the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. Each timely treatment is a source of pride, adding motivation and determination for the doctors to continue to strive to contribute and care for the health of soldiers and fishermen.

Remembering Tet in Truong Sa

Celebrating Tet on Phan Vinh Island in the Truong Sa archipelago is still fresh in his mind, a military doctor who once worked here. According to Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Trinh Thien Ke, Tet in Truong Sa in general, and Phan Vinh Island in particular, always has plenty of... sunshine and wind, the weather is even a bit hot, not as cold as on the mainland.

“In the middle of the ocean, there are not many apricot and peach blossoms blooming on the traditional Tet holiday, but there is still a Truong Sa shining brightly in the middle of the ocean. There, the people and soldiers gather to celebrate Tet, firmly believing in guarding the sky and the sea so that the mainland can welcome a full spring...”, Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Trinh Thien Ke confided.

For Dr. Tran Dang Khoa, only when celebrating Tet on Truong Sa island can he fully feel the sacred moments amidst the vastness of the sea and sky of the Fatherland. Despite the deprivation and distance from home, the moments of celebrating Tet on a remote island make everyone cherish and feel proud.

The most impressive thing was probably the Tet cultural program, everyone sang together the melody of “Not far away, Truong Sa” and “The Fatherland calls my name”. All hearts beat together with pride and the sacredness of the two words “Vietnam”.

Colonel, Specialist Doctor II Hoang Van Ly, Director of Military Hospital 7 said: "The officers, doctors and staff here not only complete their medical examination and treatment tasks well at the hospital but also volunteer to join the United Nations peacekeeping force; strengthen military medical security at the Northeast island line and Phan Vinh island in the Truong Sa archipelago".

They have determined that this is not only a duty but also an honor and pride for every military doctor.
