Heavy rain and strong winds caused by storm No. 3 have caused a series of trees to fall, many cars to be crushed by trees, making many car owners worried about the damage to their property. In this situation, how will the insurance company compensate?
When will the insurance company pay?
There are many different types of auto insurance, so first, car owners need to read the regulations of each type of insurance to determine which risks will be covered by insurance.
Currently, motor vehicle insurance includes many types of products such as: Compulsory civil liability insurance, accident insurance for vehicle occupants, car physical damage insurance, voluntary civil liability insurance and cargo civil liability insurance.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai, representative of PVI Insurance Company, said: "If the car is damaged by a fallen tree, a fallen electric pole, or flooding, the auto insurance company will be responsible for compensation when the customer has purchased auto physical damage insurance. This is a type of voluntary auto insurance, also known as auto body insurance."
According to regulations, car physical damage insurance will cover the car owner for physical damage caused by unexpected accidents beyond the control of the car owner in cases such as: Collision, overturn, fall, fire, explosion; force majeure due to nature; theft, robbery of the entire car.
In case a tree falls on a car, it is an unavoidable natural disaster, so if you buy car physical damage insurance, the car owner will be compensated for the exact amount that the car owner paid for repairs.
However, car owners also need to pay attention to this, in case the car is crushed by a tree while parked on a no-parking road, even if the car owner has purchased car physical damage insurance, the insurance company will still refuse to compensate, Mr. Hai emphasized.
If the vehicle owner only participates in compulsory civil liability insurance, the vehicle will not be compensated for damage by the insurance company.
How should a car owner handle a falling tree crushing his car?
When a car is crushed by a tree, the car owner should proactively call the insurance company so that the company can send staff to the scene to confirm the damage and guide the car owner through the procedures to receive insurance compensation benefits.
Not only that, the car owner can also call the authorities to record and take pictures of the scene and then take the car to a repair shop. At that time, the insurance company will base on the confirmation of the authorities or the image, the current condition of the car when the tree fell to proceed with payment and insurance compensation.
In addition, in case the tree management unit does not ensure safety when pruning or cutting branches, leading to branches falling or trees falling on cars, the responsibility for compensation will belong to the tree management unit.
