The approved monkeypox test kit was developed by Daan Gene, a company that specializes in detecting the monkeypox F3L gene in skin lesions and throat swabs, according to an announcement on August 22.

Chinadaily said authorities will strengthen supervision after the product is put on the market to protect user safety.

China's General Administration of Customs also announced that in the next six months they will begin screening people and goods entering the country for monkeypox cases.

People coming from countries with outbreaks, who have been in contact with monkeypox cases or who are showing symptoms will be required to declare this information to customs authorities upon entering China. The General Administration of Customs also noted that vehicles, containers and items from areas with monkeypox cases must be disinfected.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on August 14 declared a global public health emergency due to monkeypox in Africa. This is the highest level of warning issued by WHO. In addition, WHO also called for increased vaccine production to prevent the spread of a more dangerous strain of monkeypox virus.

WHO also called on countries with monkeypox vaccine stocks to donate to countries experiencing outbreaks. The two monkeypox vaccines used in recent years are MVA-BN produced by Bavarian Nordic (Denmark) and LC16 from Japan.

According to the Africa CDC, from January 2022 to August 4, the continent had 38,465 cases of monkeypox and 1,456 deaths. Affected countries include Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Uganda and Kenya.

Monkeypox is a viral disease that can be spread between humans and infected animals. According to the WHO, monkeypox can be spread through close contact such as touching, kissing or sexual intercourse, as well as through items such as bedding, clothing and needles.

Symptoms include fever, a painful rash, headaches, muscle and back pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. For decades, the disease has been primarily recorded in Central and West Africa, but it also began spreading to Europe and North America in 2022.
