From July 1, 2024, the Law on Identification will come into effect. According to the provisions of the Law on Identification, children from 0 to under 6 years old can have an identification card if needed.

When applying for an ID card for a child from 0 to under 6 years old, the legal representative, the father, mother or guardian, only needs to bring their ID card or citizen ID card and the child's birth certificate.

According to regulations, the ID management agency does not collect biometric information such as facial photos, fingerprints and irises for children from 0 to under 6 years old. When making an ID card, parents or guardians do not need to bring the child directly to the place where the application is collected.

In addition to going directly to the place where ID card application documents are received, parents or guardians of children from 0 to under 6 years old can do it online on the public service portal via the VNeID application.

For children from 0 to under 6 years old who do not have a birth certificate, the child's legal representative shall carry out the procedure for issuing an ID card when registering the child's birth in person or online.

The ID card of children from 0 to under 6 years old can integrate birth certificate and health insurance card if the citizen needs it.
