Ngo Quyen overpass is a testament to the efforts and determination of Hai Duong city during the outbreak and rampage of Covid-19. The 5.67 km long Ring Road I connecting Lien Hong and Ngoc Son communes was started in the southern part of the city and was completed on the occasion of the city celebrating the 85th anniversary of the founding of the first Party Cell, the predecessor of the Hai Duong City Party Committee (August 26, 1938 - August 26, 2023). Overcoming seemingly intractable obstacles, Vu Cong Dan Street in the west is in the final stage of construction to connect Hai Duong City with Binh Giang and Cam Giang districts. When land clearance is no longer a bottleneck, the appearance of a modern and synchronized Vu Cong Dan Street is gradually taking shape. The most valuable thing is the consensus for the common good of the people when on the occasion of the Giap Thin New Year, they need a place to reunite and worship their ancestors, but they are still willing to demolish their houses and hand over their land so that the project can be implemented soon.

It would be more complete if Bui Thi Xuan Bridge was built at the eastern gateway of the city. This bridge plays a role in creating a dynamic and flexible connection between the wards and communes in the suburbs and the inner city. Hai Duong City has selected a bridge architectural design, choosing the idea of ​​building a bridge inspired by Chu Dau ceramics, a typical handicraft product of the Eastern land. However, due to the need to adjust the investment policy and re-evaluate the effectiveness of loans, the Bui Thi Xuan Bridge project has been delayed in this term. However, the city's efforts to create a breakthrough in traffic infrastructure deserve recognition.

The city's master plan for 2040 was approved in April 2023. With this plan, the image of a star city with 5 development poles is replaced by 4 urban areas with 6 functional zones. From this foundation, the city aspires to be an industrial and commercial city, a healthy living city, a creative city, a beautiful city that is friendly to people, a safe and secure city.

Along with traffic infrastructure, the urban green tree criterion is also a minus point of Hai Duong City when it becomes a type I urban area. The standard for green tree density of a type I urban area is 10 m²/person but at that time, the city had only reached 7 m²/person. Meanwhile, green tree planning still has many limitations and shortcomings, and many roads are planted with trees haphazardly.

To improve the quality of urban trees, Hai Duong City not only cares about the quantity and density of trees but also focuses on landscape and aesthetics. Thanks to that, in a short time, Hai Duong has become a city of colorful flowers, each season has its own flowers. Each season has its own typical flowers along each route, making people excited, passionate, eager to record beautiful images with flowers as well as preserve the image of the city to become more attached and loving.

Everyone happily welcomes spring with the city with the purple and pink colors of Bauhinia flowers or Phong Linh flowers that dye Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue yellow when the season changes from spring to summer. Then, when summer comes, the appearance of the first-class urban area is brilliant with all kinds of flowers blooming like wallflowers, Lagerstroemia, Royal poinciana, Cassia fistula, etc. When autumn comes, Hai Duong city is filled with the fragrance of milk flowers. When winter comes, the city becomes strange and nostalgic when the flowers change their leaves. Another highlight is Truong Thinh flower garden with the message "City of Love" which has become a check-in point for many people. All of these have created a colorful and diverse Hai Duong city.

After 5 years, Hai Duong City has not only overcome the disadvantages of urban green trees but also created highlights and impressions from this criterion. Currently, the density of urban green trees in the city has reached 13.96 m²/person, over 3.96 m²/person compared to the criteria of a type I urban area. Hai Duong City aims to reach 15 m²/person to move towards green urban areas, reduce the pressure of urbanization and industrialization, create a fresh living space for people to enjoy.

Creating a community cultural space

Hai Duong City has an advantage in terms of geographical location but is at a disadvantage because it is only a city to pass through, not a destination or a stopover. People always hope that the city will have a community cultural space to satisfy the entertainment, recreation and shopping needs of people and tourists. This urged Hai Duong City to build a walking street and Bach Dang night market. Although there were many conflicting opinions about this at first, the street was inaugurated on the evening of April 28, 2023, right on the occasion of the April 30 holiday. After 1 year of operation, the response and acceptance of people and tourists from near and far is the clearest answer.

Bach Dang walking street and night market have gradually become spiritual food for locals and tourists every weekend. This is not only a place for entertainment but also contributes to nurturing and spreading the vitality of the mass art movement. The street attracts 5,000-7,000 people every weekend night, and 10,000-12,000 people on holidays and Tet to visit and experience. Besides promoting historical values, traditional and modern culture, Bach Dang walking street and night market contribute to promoting the development of the city's night economy.

From the success of the walking street and Bach Dang night market, the city has just opened the Tue Tinh food street on the occasion of the April 30 holiday. This is an auxiliary street, contributing to the formation of community values ​​from stimulating tourism and consumption. At the same time, putting the food street into order and discipline helps manage the city more effectively and systematically. Although newly built, the affection of the people and tourists for this street every Friday night is the driving force for Hai Duong city to continue to exploit and promote it to build the image of a dynamic, friendly and hospitable type I urban area.

Over the past 5 years, the city's efforts and determination to build a green, smart, friendly and safe type I urban area have achieved many results. However, to become a livable place, Hai Duong City still has a lot to do. That is, the organization and implementation of planning needs to be systematic and methodical, and the construction of infrastructure needs to be urgent and synchronous to avoid unnecessary troubles for the people.
