MU occupies 5 names in the list of top 10 highest-paid players in Premier League history, including failed contracts
According to a study from Sportrac, Marca released the top 10 highest paid players of all time in the Premier League, in which MU... proudly contributed 5 names.
Man City star Kevin de Bruyne tops the list, having pocketed a whopping £164.9 million since signing his first contract with the Etihad Stadium team in 2015.
The key midfielder in Pep Guardiola's squad that won six Premier League titles as well as the Champions League earns £400,000 a week from a contract extension with Man City in 2021.
Former Etihad team-mate Raheem Sterling is second on the list with £160.7m in wages since making his Premier League debut in 2012.
Although Sterling joined Arsenal on loan this season, Chelsea still paid the majority of his £325,000-a-week wages.
David de Gea ranked 3rd, leading the 5 MU players in the list of 10 highest paid players of all time in the Premier League.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently playing for Fiorentina after being unexpectedly rejected by United for a new contract, earned £375,000 a week at Old Trafford in a deal signed in 2019.
Next up is another former Red Devil - Old Trafford's all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney, at £124m.
In fifth place is Mohamed Salah, who earns around £18.2m a year from Liverpool after signing a new three-year contract last year.
MU also 'contributed' the next two names in the huge salary payment, Romelu Lukaku with 95.4 million pounds and Paul Pogba (90.9 million pounds), although the Belgian striker only played 66 times for the Red Devils in the period 2017-2019.
And MU's generosity is also shown by paying handsomely for another failed contract, Anthony Martial, who received 87 million pounds from the Red Devils during 9 years of 'struggling' at Old Trafford.
Martial joined United in 2015, with a fee of 44.5 million pounds from Monaco, the most expensive contract in the world at that time for a young player. He only scored 90 goals in 317 appearances, the opposite of the prediction that he could win the Golden Ball at United.
Last summer, MU finally broke up with Martial, cutting his £250,000/week salary.
The remaining two names in the top 10 highest-paid players of all time in the Premier League are N'Golo Kante, the once humble hero of Leicester City and Chelsea, and Van Dijk (Liverpool) - salary 220,000 pounds/week, earning a total of 84 million pounds.
