“Today I want to express my full support and endorsement of Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and defeat Trump,” President Biden wrote on X.

He also said that endorsing Ms. Harris as his 2020 running mate "was the best decision I ever made."

In his announcement on X on the evening of July 21, President Biden said that he had made great progress for America in the past 3 and a half years. Accordingly, America has the strongest economy in the world, has made historic investments to rebuild the country, reduced prescription drug prices for the elderly, expanded health care for many people...

“America has never been better positioned to lead than it is today,” Biden wrote.

The current US President said that although he wants to run for re-election, his withdrawal will bring the greatest benefit to the Democratic Party and the US. Currently, his only job is to focus on fulfilling his responsibilities as president for the remaining time of his term.

Previously, Mr. Biden faced continuous criticism demanding that he stop the race to the White House against his opponent Donald Trump. These calls came not only from Republican opponents but also from members of the Democratic Party.

Pressure for Mr Biden to drop out of the race began in the first televised debate, when he was completely outplayed by his opponent.

This is the first time in decades that a sitting president has dropped out of the race. The last time was when President Lyndon Johnson decided not to seek a second term in 1968.

Responding to the announcement of withdrawing from the White House race, Senate Democratic Leader Dick Durbin praised President Joe Biden's decision, saying he "always puts the country first".

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump described Mr. Biden to CNN just minutes after receiving the news that Mr. Biden withdrew from the White House race as "the worst president in the history of our country."

While it's still unclear who the Democratic nominee will be, former President Trump said he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to beat than Biden.
