More than 32 million people watched the US President's 2024 State of the Union address live

About 32.2 million people watched the 2024 State of the Union address on television or cable on the evening of March 7 (local time), a sharp increase from the 27.3 million who watched the 2023 State of the Union address.

Nielsen Market Research data shows that about 32.2 million people watched the 2024 State of the Union address on broadcast or cable television on the evening of March 7 (local time), a sharp increase from the 27.3 million who watched the 2023 State of the Union address.

Up to 74% of the audience were over 55 years old, while 19% were between 35-54 years old and about 5% were between 18-34 years old.

Fox News was the most watched channel, with an audience of 5.6 million.

Next was cable news channel MSNBC with 4.2 million viewers and CNN with 2.5 million viewers.

On broadcast platforms, ABC led with 5 million viewers, followed by NBC with 4.3 million and CBS with 3.9 million.

President Joe Biden's 2024 State of the Union address will be broadcast live on all major broadcast networks, along with streaming platforms and social media channels like YouTube.

Nielsen Market Research began counting viewership numbers after 9 p.m. on March 7 (Eastern Time).

This statistic does not count the number of views of the 2024 State of the Union Address on social media platforms or related videos shared... If these videos were also counted, the number of viewers would be significantly higher.

For President Joe Biden personally, the 2022 State of the Union address was the most-watched speech, with 38.2 million viewers.

Former President Donald Trump's four State of the Union addresses averaged 44.3 million viewers.

In the 21st century, then-President George W. Bush's 2003 State of the Union address was the most viewed, with 62 million viewers.

Next was President Barack Obama's inaugural address, which attracted 52.4 million viewers in 2009.
