On the afternoon of August 16, the People's Court of Hai Duong province held a first-instance trial and sentenced To Van Thang (born in 1984, residing in Long Xuyen commune, Binh Giang) to 11 years in prison for the crime of abuse of trust to appropriate property.

According to the indictment, on May 21, 2020, Thang rented a car 34A-128.20 worth 610 million VND from Ms. Nguyen Thi S. (born in 1969, residing in Tran Hung Dao ward, Hai Duong city) for use. Ms. S. gave Thang the car and vehicle registration.
On May 28, 2020, due to needing money, Thang pawned the car to Mr. Nguyen Duy B. (born in 1989, owner of a pawn shop on Tue Tinh street, Hai Duong city) to borrow 300 million VND.
After the car rental contract expired, Thang did not return the car to Ms. S. but fled the area and took possession of the car. On December 6, 2022, Ms. S. filed a report with the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong Provincial Police.
