The wide concrete roads to the fields in Thanh Ha have created an important lever to help the district's agriculture sector develop further.
Cars go to the fields to buy agricultural products
Taking us to visit the 4m wide road to the lychee growing area in Phuc Gioi village, Chairman of Thanh Quang Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Khoa excitedly boasted: "80% of the roads to the production areas in our commune are now concreted. The remaining roads have been leveled, and we are moving towards mobilizing people to lay concrete. People can now travel leisurely, and cars can go to the fields to buy agricultural products."
Thanh Quang is one of the communes with a large lychee growing area. To promote production, one of the solutions that this locality considers important is to mobilize people to participate in concrete road construction to the fields. From 2016 to now, the commune has mobilized over 45 billion VND to concrete 35 km of intra-field roads, of which people contributed about 35 billion VND, donating tens of thousands of m2land and many days of work.
Ms. Le Thi Thuy, Head of Ha Vinh village informed: "Many households donated 200-300 m2The farmers do not spare any effort or money because they know the great benefits of road construction. In the past, when harvesting lychees, they had to carry them all the way to the gathering point in the commune center. Now, cars and motorbikes can transport them all the way to the garden.
Over 30 roads leading to the fields in Vinh Lap commune have been paved with smooth concrete, 2.5-3 m wide. Many embankments in this locality have also been hardened.
All roads leading to the 400-hectare lychee growing area and the 48-hectare rươi and cay exploitation area in Vinh Lap commune have been basically paved with concrete, 2.5-4m wide. The total cost of building these roads is more than 12 billion VND, most of which is contributed by the people.
The 1km long residential road leading to the Mia field in Hamlet 1, Thieu My village has just been widened from 2.5m to 5-7m. The village mobilized over 400 million VND from the community, each household contributed an additional 1.2 million VND to widen the road.
Mrs. Pham Thi The's family voluntarily donated 75 m2The land owner who is planning to expand the above road said: “In the past, cars buying agricultural products could not enter the sugarcane field. People had to use carts and carry heavy loads. Now cars can go right to the fields. We are waiting for support from the superiors to re-pave this road with concrete to make it cleaner and more beautiful.”
In the process of building new rural areas, roads to the fields in many places in Thanh Ha district have been paved with concrete thanks to the joint efforts and consensus of the people. The development of transportation not only helps people travel more conveniently but also creates a driving force to promote trade in the local lychee, guava, kumquat growing areas, aquaculture, etc. to develop and increase value.
In the period 2012-2016, Thanh Ha district developed rural transportation the most. The whole district has concreted 627km of roads, including over 148km of main roads to the fields. On average, each road to the fields is 2.5-3.5m wide.
In addition to the main routes to the fields, the district has 531 km of internal roads, most of which have been hardened or leveled. “In the process of building new rural areas, Thanh Ha received 125,000 tons of cement from the province, the most in the province, to concrete the roads. This has encouraged people to participate in contributing a lot of money, land and labor days to work together,” said Nguyen Van Khanh, Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Thanh Ha district.
Continue to upgrade and expand
Since 2017, communes that have reached or registered to reach the new rural area target are no longer supported with cement to build rural roads in general, and roads to the fields in particular. However, Thanh Ha district continues to mobilize people to contribute and take advantage of support sources according to Decree 35 of the Government to build intra-field roads in rice-growing areas.
Many places in the district are continuing to mobilize people to contribute funds to upgrade and expand degraded roads to the fields to better meet people's travel needs and promote agricultural economic development associated with tourism. "The commune is expected to receive 5 billion VND in support from the province for this. We will prioritize expanding the transportation system to production areas that meet VietGAP and Global GAP standards in 5 villages from 2m to 3-4.5m. Spacious roads, cars going right to the fields will attract tourists to visit and experience the ripe lychee season," Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa informed.
Thanh Ha aims to expand and upgrade 5-7 km of intra-field roads each year under the motto "The State and the people work together". Currently, the whole district still has about 35 km of roads to production areas that need to be invested soon to promote the consumption of goods and serve the travel of the people. To encourage people to participate, the district hopes to receive cement support from the province.
The development of intra-field traffic has helped Thanh Ha district form many concentrated agricultural production areas with high economic value. By the end of 2023, the whole district had developed about 7,185 hectares of perennial crops, mainly lychee, guava, banana, and kumquat. The lychee area alone reached 3,285 hectares, with an output of 35,560 tons, worth over 1,100 billion VND. Many concentrated livestock, poultry, and aquaculture facilities, and the exploitation of special products such as earthworms and clams, have been established. The total livestock output of the district in 2023 reached 11,465 tons. The value of harvested products per hectare of cultivated land and aquaculture in the district reached 214.7 million VND.
