Still using the trick of impersonating a police officer, the subject threatened and almost made the Deputy Chief of Police in Gia Loc lose 130 million VND.
On the afternoon of October 16, Ms. PTT (born in 1971, residing in Le Loi commune, Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province) received a phone call from a subject claiming to be an officer of the Hanoi City Police, specializing in investigating cases related to drugs and money laundering.
This subject informed that the phone number that Ms. T. was using had been used to register a bank account and borrow 6.8 billion VND. To serve the investigation, Ms. T. had to transfer all the money she had into the account provided by the subject to complete the procedures for verifying assets and legalizing the money. If she did not comply, Ms. T. would be arrested. During the conversation, Ms. T. told the subject that she was depositing 2 savings books in the commune's Credit Fund, one for 130 million VND, the other for 100 million VND. The subject asked Ms. T. to withdraw all the money in the 130 million VND book to transfer to the account provided by the subject, and would return it after 6 hours, and would instruct Ms. T. to transfer the 100 million VND book later.
After receiving repeated threatening phone calls from the subject, at around 1:00 p.m. on October 17, Ms. T. withdrew all 130 million VND in savings from the Commune Credit Fund and brought it to a gold shop in Gia Loc town to transfer to the subject. Through contact, the gold shop staff saw that Ms. T. was speaking hesitantly and panicking, so they tried to calm her down and informed the district police.
Gia Loc District Police officers arrived promptly, grasped the information and clearly explained to Ms. T. about the fraud methods of the subjects, and at the same time encouraged Ms. T. not to listen to or follow any requests of the subjects.
Since the beginning of October, this is the third case that Gia Loc District Police have promptly prevented, preventing people from losing money to scammers using the above tricks.
