The pay increase is expected to take effect in May 2024 after the fiscal 2024 budget bill is enacted in April next year.

Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary General of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), noted that after the increase, the starting salary for newly recruited civil servants will be 18,000 baht (about 500 USD), while other positions will be adjusted accordingly. The Budget Bureau and relevant government agencies will discuss the budget sources to finance the salary increase.

Earlier, the OCSC, NESDC, the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Department had approved the proposal to increase the salaries of civil servants and public employees by 10 percent at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, who is in charge of the OCSC, last week.

Thailand has about 1.68 million civil servants and public employees, including about 427,000 teachers and education staff, 421,000 civil servants and 325,000 military personnel.
