High-speed ferry to Phu Quoc stops running

High-speed boats to Phu Quoc and Nam Du and Hon Son islands have stopped running due to the impact of storm Talim. The sea area from Ca Mau to Kien Giang is at risk of thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Mr. Vo Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority, said that all high-speed ships and ferries departing from Rach Gia, Ha Tien to Phu Quoc, the islands and vice versa will be stopped until further notice.

Phu Quoc Island is located in the southwest, 120 km east of Rach Gia city and 45 km west of Ha Tien city. There are more than 30 high-speed ferry trips from the mainland to Phu Quoc every day. Tickets that have been purchased will be refunded or changed for passengers.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 10 p.m. yesterday, the center of storm Talim was about 780 km east-southeast of Leizhou Peninsula (China), with the strongest wind speed of 74 km/h, level 8, gusting to level 10. It is forecasted that by the night of July 18, the center of the storm will be in the northern Gulf of Tonkin, with the strongest wind speed of level 10-11, gusting to level 13.

Storm impact, in the next 24 hours, the sea area from Ca Mau to Kien Giang, including Phu Quoc, will have strong southwest winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, waves 1.5-3 m high, rough seas, risk of showers, thunderstorms, tornadoes...
