September 3, 2023 13:12

The number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to Singapore has reached 80% compared to before the pandemic, and the lion island is also a destination that many tourists prioritize for the September 2 holiday.

Ms. Serene Ng, Chief Representative of the Singapore Tourism Board in Vietnam, said that in the first 7 months of the year, Singapore welcomed more than 280,000 Vietnamese visitors. The Singapore Tourism Board assessed that the recovery rate of Vietnamese tourists had reached 80% compared to 2019 and 123% compared to the same period last year. This is considered an impressive recovery rate.

The Lion City has identified Vietnam as one of its 10 most important tourist markets. A representative of the Singapore Tourism Board also predicted that the long holiday on September 2 would continue to record a positive growth trend in the number of Vietnamese visitors to the country.

A report by the booking app Booking released on August 26 also showed that Singapore was the most popular destination for Vietnamese tourists during the September 2 holiday, just behind Bangkok, Thailand, which ranked first. Meanwhile, on April 30, Singapore ranked fourth in the list of 10 most popular foreign destinations for Vietnamese people, after Thailand, Japan and South Korea.

Le Nghi Binh, 24, living in Ho Chi Minh City, said she made two trips to Singapore this year. During the September 2 holiday, Nghi Binh returned to the island nation because "traveling to Singapore is expensive but worth it." She plans to spend about VND10 million for a 3-day, 2-night trip, mainly for shopping.

Statistics from the Singapore Tourism Board also show that Vietnamese tourists often spend the most on three services: accommodation, dining and shopping when coming here. According to Ms. Binh, the prices of accommodation and shopping services in the island nation are "slightly higher" than in Thailand. However, this is a modern and always innovative tourist city, so female tourists do not hesitate to spend money and come back when they have the opportunity.

A survey of travel agencies in Ho Chi Minh City shows that the demand for Singapore travel by Vietnamese tourists on the occasion of September 2nd is increasing compared to last year. Many companies have completed 100% of their planned tours to Singapore before the September 2nd holiday. Tour programs of 3 days 2 nights or 6 days 5 nights with prices ranging from 10 million VND to 12 million VND are preferred by many tourists.

Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Communications Director of Vietluxtour, said that the company has completed its business plan for Singapore tours during the holidays, increasing the number of visitors by about 50% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the Singapore - Malaysia cruise route accounts for about 40% of Singapore tour visitors, focusing on the mid-range and high-end segments.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Linh, IT Marketing Director of BenThanh Tourist, commented that Singapore is one of the tourist markets that Vietnamese tourists love and return to many times. Ms. Linh pointed out the factors that help Singapore retain Vietnamese tourists, including its favorable geographical location, complete infrastructure, and diverse attractions and entertainment. These are all factors that are suitable for many different groups of tourists, creating an attraction for Vietnamese tourists in particular and international tourists in general.

To attract and retain Vietnamese and international tourists, a representative of the Singapore Tourism Board said that the country aims to build a "vibrant and trustworthy destination image", focusing on ensuring tourist safety and providing diverse experiences for both leisure and business travel. In addition, the Singapore tourism industry is also adapting to new trends such as focusing on holistic health and sustainable lifestyles. At the same time, Singapore continues to invest in developing new products and experiences.

A representative of a travel company specializing in outbound tours commented that the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Singapore Tourism Board and travel businesses in Vietnam has contributed to further promoting tourism activities between the two countries. This cooperation brings attractive incentives and brings the image of the island nation closer to Vietnamese tourists. The growth trend of this destination in the first half of 2023 has clearly demonstrated the diversity and sustainable appeal of Singapore in the Asian tourism trend, which is experiencing fierce and increasingly fierce competition between Southeast Asian and Northeast Asian destinations.
