"Shark" Thuy was arrested, what happened to Apax Leaders in Hai Duong now?

Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, also known as “Shark” Thuy, is a familiar face in the program Shark Tank Vietnam. “Shark” Thuy has just been prosecuted and temporarily detained by the Department of Police Investigation of Crimes of Corruption, Economy, and Smuggling, Ministry of Public Security, for fraud and appropriation of property at Egroup Education Corporation, Egame Investment and Distribution Corporation.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong, Apax Leaders Foreign Language Center Hai Duong was licensed to operate since 2019, located on the 2nd floor, Minh Anh Commercial Center building, Tran Hung Dao street (Hai Duong city).

Apax Leaders Hai Duong Foreign Language Center has 2 campuses on Tran Hung Dao Street and Truong Chinh Street (Hai Duong City). During its “golden” period around 2020, both campuses had 500 students. However, at the end of 2021, the campus on Truong Chinh Street stopped operating.

On April 24, 2023, the operating license of Apax Leaders Hai Duong Foreign Language Center expired but the center did not apply for an extension. The Department of Education and Training instructed the center to re-apply for a license to establish and operate again according to the provisions of law. The Department then granted the center a license to establish but refused to grant an operating license because Apax Leaders Hai Duong Foreign Language Center did not have enough documents according to the regulations.

According to sources from some official press agencies, Apax English Joint Stock Company is considered the most effective subsidiary among the enterprises of Apax Holdings Investment Joint Stock Company. However, at the end of 2022, the Apax English Joint Stock Company system was operating at a loss; continuously involved in issues related to teaching quality, late salary payment, teacher salary arrears... A series of parents went to Apax Leaders to complain, requesting a refund of tuition fees on the grounds that the center did not fulfill its commitment. Many parents of this center reported that they were required to pay tuition fees in advance, but after a while, the centers suddenly closed or switched to online teaching.

According to the Hai Duong Department of Education and Training, a parent in Hai Duong has demanded money from the center because he has not received the remaining tuition fee as promised. Because the parents were not refunded, from April to November 2023, the center will continue to operate online teaching to make up for the program that students have registered to study...

According to Hai Duong Newspaper reporters, Apax Leaders Hai Duong Foreign Language Center stopped operating around November 2023, before "Shark" Thuy was arrested.

On the afternoon of March 27, reporters called many phone numbers of the representative of Apax Leaders Hai Duong Foreign Language Center but could not contact them.
