According to leaders of some localities such as Kim Tan and Dong Cam, the output of early-season jicama this year in Kim Thanh (Hai Duong) decreased by an average of 50% compared to last year, and the selling price also decreased sharply.
Currently, farmers in communes of area C of Kim Thanh district (Dong Cam, Kim Tan, Hoa Binh, Kim Dinh...) have started harvesting jicama early, with an average yield of 1.3-1.5 tons/sao, and field prices of 5,000 - 6,000 VND/kg.
According to leaders of some localities such as Kim Tan and Dong Cam, the yield of early-season jicama this year decreased by an average of 50% compared to last year, and the selling price also decreased by 3,000 - 4,000 VND/kg. With the current price, farmers earn a profit of 3 - 6 million VND/sao, about 8 million VND/sao lower than last year.
The main reason is that this year, when the jicama was planted and started to grow and take root, it was affected by storm number 3, causing the tree to be shaken and the roots to break. The demand for jicama this year has also decreased.
In the winter crop of 2024 - 2025, Kim Thanh district will plant more than 380 hectares of jicama, concentrated in communes of area C. The district has nearly 40 hectares of jicama produced according to VietGAP standards.
For many years, jicama has been considered the main winter crop in Kim Thanh district with large area and value compared to other winter vegetables.
