The book "Some issues on military guidelines and defense strategies in the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland in the new period" collects 39 articles, speeches, and interviews by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

The book is over 400 pages thick and consists of three parts, systematizing the General Secretary's instructions on military policies and strategies to protect the Fatherland in the current period.

The book has been widely read and is considered to demonstrate the intellectual height, sharp and creative thinking, and consistent and thorough ideology of the leader of our Party in leading and directing the policies and strategies to protect the Fatherland in the new period.

Building defense strategy, promoting combined strength

Through 39 speeches, articles and interviews in the book "Some issues on military guidelines and defense strategies in the cause of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the new period" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Colonel Le Quang Lang, Head of the Resistance History Department, Institute of Military History, General Staff, expressed that this is a work of "national - great" importance, with decisive significance to maintaining peace, stability and development of the country.

The book demonstrates the intellectual height, sharp thinking and creativity of the leader of our Party - Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong - General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

In particular, the book points out the supreme requirement of military and defense strategy is to firmly protect the Fatherland "early, from afar"; prevent war, maintain a stable and peaceful environment for national development; and not let the Fatherland be "passive and surprised" in any situation.

Colonel Le Quang Lang emphasized that planning military and defense policies and strategies is a process of deep awareness of the times, opportunities and challenges facing the task of protecting the Fatherland. Therefore, the contents and issues raised in the book continue to affirm our Party's consistent viewpoints and policies on the strategy of protecting the Fatherland in general, and military and defense strategies in particular, in a world of increasingly deep integration.

Accordingly, the key point of the national defense policy and strategy in the new period is to build a national defense strategy to promote comprehensive strength, seize opportunities, repel risks, expand foreign relations through defense transparency, demonstrate an independent, autonomous viewpoint, and no military alliances...

Veteran Bui Thien, third-class disabled veteran, former Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City, said that throughout the 21 articles, speeches and interviews, the guiding idea of ​​the General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Military Commission is to further strengthen the absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects over the army and supplement and perfect the Party's leadership mechanism over the army.

According to Mr. Bui Thien, the book reviews the history of the formation and leadership of the Vietnamese revolution by the Communist Party. It is impossible to build a strong and comprehensive army without the key factor of improving the quality of Party work, which means first of all, building a politically strong army. Mr. Bui Thien said that when it comes to military and defense policies and strategies or directions for building a new-style army, no matter what aspect, the General Secretary also requires the Party's direct and absolute leadership over the army.

In the book, one of the contents that veteran Bui Thien is most fond of is that at the 11th Congress of the Party Committee of the Army, term 2020-2025, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong gave a speech "The Army must be absolutely loyal to the Party, to the Fatherland, and closely attached to the people."
