Korean writer spent 12 years writing book about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Author Cho Chulhyeon said he spent 10 years researching documents and nearly 2 years completing the book, expressing his deep respect for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On October 23, Thong Tan Publishing House launched the bookStory about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongin Vietnamese by Korean author Cho Chulhyeon, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the General Secretary's passing. This is the first book by a foreign author about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, first introduced to readers in May 2024 in Korean.
When he intended to write a book about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, writer Cho Chulhyeon thought it would be easy to gather information from many people. However, things did not go as he thought because the General Secretary was very modest. Mr. Cho Chulhyeon also went to many countries such as Cuba, China and Russia to find articles about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The 344-page work vividly describes the childhood, the years of studying hard, excelling in primary, middle and high school, and the 8th course of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi National University; the period of working at the Communist Magazine with many sharp theoretical and critical articles and the achievements of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he held the position of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee (2000-2006), Chairman of the National Assembly (2006-2011); the period of assuming the highest leadership position of Vietnam through the terms of the 11th, 12th and 13th Party Congresses.
The work consists of the following parts: Schooling period, Maturity period, Criticism period, People's period, Adaptation period and the epilogue sketching the picture of a Cultural Powerhouse.
Writing the foreword for the book, President Luong Cuong, in his capacity as Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat, emphasized: “Author and writer Cho Chulhyeon expressed his appreciation and admiration for the intelligence, talent, personality, morality, and dedication of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the country and people of Vietnam. He introduced to readers true and touching stories about the life, background, and career of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, so that simple events and stories can speak for themselves and shine without the need for beautiful words.”
General Luong Cuong affirmed: “The book will help readers at home and abroad understand more about the respected leader of the Party, State and people of Vietnam; it has profound educational significance for cadres, Party members and people about ethics, revolutionary ideals, for the freedom and happiness of the people”.
Speaking at the book launch, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung affirmed that the work contributes to clarifying the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as well as Vietnamese history. This is a valuable reference document for domestic and foreign readers when researching and learning about the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
On July 22, 2024, writer Cho Chulhyeon attended the signing ceremony to publish, print, and release a book about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Cho Chulhyeon is a biographer and documentary film producer. After graduating from the English Department of the Korea University of Foreign Studies, he worked at the Publication Department of the Broadcasting and Television Commission. He has produced many documentaries related to the Korean-speaking community.
Starting from the Frankfurt International Book Fair in Germany (2005), he took on the role of director of filming events where Korea was invited as a guest of honor at major international book fairs around the world until 2016.
Since 2017, he has been interested in Koreans in Central Asia and has published many books during this time. In 2014, he was awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit from the Republic of Korea for his contributions to the development of the publishing industry.
In 2019, he won the award in the category of Outstanding Work at the First Tashkent International Book Fair (Uzbekistan).
