The bomb, made in the US and left over from the war, coded MK82, weighing 227kg, 1.54m long, with a maximum diameter of 274mm, was handled absolutely safely.

Authorities removed the detonator and then transported the bomb to the detonation site.

On March 2, the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command announced that it had coordinated with the MAG bomb clearance project to successfully and safely handle a 227kg bomb discovered in a residential area in Hoan Lao town, Bo Trach district.

Accordingly, at around 11:30 a.m. on March 1, while constructing the project to upgrade Tran Hung Dao-Tran Phu road in Hoan Lao town, workers of Duy Thinh Construction Consulting Company Ltd. discovered a bomb at a depth of nearly 2 meters.

Upon receiving the news, the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command directed the Bo Trach District Military Command to coordinate with the local police force to urgently assign people to protect the scene, put up danger signs, and propagate and mobilize households living around the area to evacuate to other places to ensure safety.

Inspection showed that this was an American-made bomb left over from the war, coded MK82, weighing 227kg, 1.54m long, with a maximum diameter of 274mm. When discovered, the bomb still had its detonator intact.

After surveying, checking and agreeing on handling measures, on March 2, the functional forces of the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command coordinated with the MAG Bomb and Mine Clearance Project to remove the detonator, then transported the bomb to a safe detonation location.
