Nightmare, a sinkhole about 250 m deep in the Hung Thoong cave system in Quang Binh, is considered a 'horrifying nightmare' for cave explorers.
Quang Binh has two places named Nighmare by local explorers, one is a cave (discovered in 2007), the other is a sinkhole (discovered in 2016).
The Nightmare sinkhole was discovered by an expedition team from the Jungle Boss adventure travel company in the Hung Thoong cave system. According to Mr. Le Luu Dung, Director of Jungle Boss, the Nightmare is the only sinkhole in Quang Binh that has only one access route, which is a vertical rope swing at a height of about 250 m.
"The only way to get out of the hole is to swing back down the rope (unlike other holes in Quang Binh, which have an exit at the bottom). The name Nightmare was born from the arduous expeditions that drained the explorers' energy and time," said Mr. Dung.
The number of people who have set foot at the bottom of the Nightmare sinkhole is less than 10. This is a huge mystery of Phong Nha - Ke Bang and there are still many things that need to be discovered and deciphered.
With a high level of adventure, Jungle Boss has developed a zip line experience service for those who love sports with a sense of conquest. However, visitors can only swing across the rope to admire the entire sinkhole from above as well as experience the feeling of floating in the air when looking at the bottom of the deep hole.
Currently, the Nightmare sinkhole zipline tour is combined with the Hung Thoong cave exploration journey at a price of about 12 million VND/person.
