Representatives of the Sudanese army have returned to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for talks with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a government source said on July 15, as the war between rival generals enters its fourth month.

“A delegation of the Sudanese armed forces has returned to Jeddah to resume negotiations with the RSF,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

RSF has not yet commented on the return to the negotiating table in Jeddah, after Saudi and US mediators had to postpone talks last month due to repeated ceasefire violations.

The war between army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, has claimed the lives of at least 3,000 people and displaced more than 3 million since it broke out on April 15.

Data released by the IOM on July 11 showed that more than 2.4 million people had been internally displaced and more than 730,000 had been evacuated abroad.

Most of them have fled from the capital Khartoum, where fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army began on April 15, or from Darfur, where violence has escalated in recent months. Egypt in the north and Chad in the west are the destinations for most of the Sudanese who have fled abroad.
