Philippines, Malaysia stress importance of maintaining peace in the East Sea

The leaders of the Philippines and Malaysia agreed to strengthen political and security cooperation, while stressing the importance of maintaining peace in the East Sea.

This content was given at the meeting between Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Philippine Presidential Palace on March 1.

According to philstar.com, speaking at a joint press conference after the talks, President Marcos Jr. stated that as neighboring countries, the Philippines and Malaysia recognize the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region. He also said that the two sides agreed to continue cooperation on political and security issues, resume meetings of the Joint Commission and joint initiatives to combat transnational crimes and terrorism.

For his part, Prime Minister Anwar said he shared the same view with President Marcos Jr. in resolving the East Sea issue at the multilateral level among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In addition, the two leaders agreed to enhance trade and investment activities, with special focus on the Halal industry, agriculture and food security, and digital economy.
