On April 22, Malian officials said that suspected jihadists in the central part of the country kidnapped 110 civilians.

According to a local official, on April 16, the jihadists stopped three buses carrying civilians, forcing them and their passengers to move towards a forest between Bandiagara and Bankass. The people are still being held by the militants.

Since 2012, security in Mali has been unstable due to attacks by forces linked to al-Qaeda and the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.

The situation is further aggravated by the humanitarian and political crisis. The violence has even spread to neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger.
