C5 is the first product of Chinese brand Omoda sold in Vietnam, expected to launch in the fourth quarter, with a 10-year and 1,000,000 km warranty.
Geleximco, the distributor of the two brands Omoda & Jaecoo (owned by Chery), said it will launch the Omoda C5 in the fourth quarter, imported from Indonesia, but has not yet specified how many versions of the car there will be. This plan is several months later than the information the company gave in June, that it would sell the Omoda C5 and Jaecoo J7 from the end of August.
The Chinese car company said it will apply a 10-year and 1,000,000 km warranty policy for the Omoda C5 and other gasoline models of the company in the Vietnamese market. This is the highest warranty level in the current Vietnamese car market.
VinFast also applies a 10-year warranty but the mileage is limited to only 200,000 km. Most popular car manufacturers on the market have a warranty policy of 3-6 years or 100,000 - 150,000 km, whichever comes first.
Applying long-term warranty policies and large mileage is the way for two Chinese brands to gain trust from Vietnamese customers. New brands, with no time to prove, are challenges for two gasoline-powered products of Omoda and Jaecoo to compete with Japanese and Korean brands... which have brand advantages and understand the tastes of long-time users in Vietnam.
Omoda C5 is a small high-chassis car, positioned in segment B. The car's dimensions of length x width x height are 4,400 x 1,830 x 1,585 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. These parameters are slightly larger than the pure B-class car model Kia Seltos with dimensions of 4,365 x 1,800 x 1,645 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. The fastback design makes the rear of the C5 have a large slope, so the height is also inferior to the Seltos.
The distributor representative said that Omoda C5 has full LED headlights, 18-inch wheels. In the interior, the car is equipped with a dual 10.25-inch screen. The information and entertainment system connects wirelessly to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, voice commands, 360-degree camera. Electric seats with heating function, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and Sony sound system. However, it is not clear which version these features are available on.
The engine on the Omoda C5 is a 1.5 turbocharged type, with a capacity of 154 horsepower, maximum torque of 230 Nm, CVT gearbox. In addition to the C5 gasoline engine version, Omoda also has a pure electric version E5 that is also planned to be sold in Vietnam.
Omoda & Jaecoo are sub-brands of the Chery Group, one of the "giants" of the Chinese automobile industry. According to the plan, the Omoda & Jaecoo new energy vehicle factory is located in Thai Binh, with a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. The factory will be built in three phases, with a total investment of more than 800 million USD.
The factory will start construction in the third quarter of this year and complete phase one in the first quarter of 2026. After completing phase one, the factory's capacity will be about 50,000 vehicles per year.
During the factory construction process, the car models that Omoda & Jaecoo brought to Vietnam were imported directly from Indonesia.
