Mazda CX-5 dominates sales in C-size CUV segment

According to VnExpress November 18, 2023 13:53

CX-5 sales average about 1,300 cars/month, completely overwhelming competitors such as Territory, CR-V, Tucson.

The CX-5 continued to accelerate to the finish line as sales continued to increase, reaching 2,195 units in October, the highest level since the beginning of 2023. This sales volume not only dominated the C-class high-chassis vehicle segment, but also led the entire market.

The lowest selling price in the segment of 749-999 million VND is the main reason why Mazda CX-5 is the most interested by customers in the market. After 10 months, the car model assembled by Truong Hai (Thaco) sold more than 13,000 cars, accounting for about 42% of the market share of the segment, almost equivalent to the average of two CUV C cars delivered to customers, one of which is Mazda branded. As the year ends, customers' psychology of buying cars before the registration fee incentive expires (from January 1, 2024) further increases the number of CX-5 deliveries.

Pressure from the price and the outstanding sales of the CX-5 has caused competitors in the segment to reduce prices accordingly. In October, Hyundai Tucson sharply reduced prices by more than 80 million VND for versions, helping to improve sales. Besides the CX-5, Hyundai's model is the second product to sell over 1,000 cars last month. However, Tucson's cumulative sales after 10 months reached more than 3,800 cars, behind two other models, Territory and CR-V.

Ford Territory is also being heavily discounted by dealers, around 60-70 million VND. Sales of the American brand car model have not increased dramatically but still hold the second best-selling position after CX-5.

The new Honda CR-V 2024 has been on the market since October, with the price being among the most expensive in the segment, alongside the Volkswagen Tiguan. Cumulative sales of the CR-V reached more than 4,200 vehicles, ranking third in the segment.

Kia Sportage with its cut-out design and complex lines is not suitable for the majority of Vietnamese people. Kia's model (1,885 cars) sold slightly more than the model at the bottom of the list, Mitsubishi Outlander, 126 cars. The Outlander's design has not been significantly upgraded for a long time, so its appeal in the segment has faded.

The C-size CUV segment also has names like Haval H6, Subaru Forester, MG RX5, Volkswagen Tiguan... but the company does not announce sales figures.
