Promoting the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the old soldiers in Nam Sach district (Hai Duong) have not been afraid of difficulties, actively participating in local activities, for the peace of the village.
Prevent many thefts and disturbances
As usual, early in the morning, the old soldiers, members of the Rong Market Management Board (Quoc Tuan Commune) began their daily patrol work at the market. In this area, various types of service businesses are developing, so bad guys can easily blend in. Many times, the Market Management Board has detected and stopped thieves in time, confiscated the evidence and handed it over to the commune police force for handling.
Previously, through the locality and information provided by the people, the self-management team of the Veterans Association of Quoc Tuan commune also prevented a fight between a group of young people in the Thanh Quang - Quoc Tuan urban area. Through inspection, the self-management team confiscated 8 pig-stabbing knives from the group. Thanks to timely detection, no complicated incidents occurred in the commune.
The new Quoc Tuan commune was established on the basis of merging the two old communes of Quoc Tuan and Thanh Quang. The commune has a large area, with National Highway 37 running through it. The An Phat I industrial park is under construction here, attracting a large number of seasonal workers. The socio-economic situation of the locality has developed, leading to an increase in social evils. To ensure security and order in the area, the old soldiers do not hesitate to coordinate with the commune police force day and night to patrol and control.
“In the past, incidents such as petty theft, young people gathering to cause trouble, and stealing people’s crops still happened. However, since the establishment of the self-management groups of the Veterans Association, this situation has decreased significantly. In particular, the theft of people’s crops before the harvest has almost disappeared,” said Mr. Tran The Nhat in An Xa village, Quoc Tuan commune.
Despite their advanced age, many veterans of Tran Phu commune (a merger of two communes, Nam Trung and Nam Chinh, both in Nam Sach district) still actively contribute to ensuring security and order in the area. Every day, self-governing groups of old soldiers still quietly patrol and control every alley.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ky, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Tran Phu Commune, said that the commune has 3 self-management groups for security and order, each group has 15 members. In addition to the tasks of coordination and propaganda, the groups also collect information from the people to promptly handle complicated cases to stabilize security and order in the area.
In addition to Quoc Tuan and Tran Phu communes, the Veterans Association of other communes in Nam Sach district also actively cooperated to strictly implement the program "Veterans participate in ensuring security and order".
The district currently has 279 members in 93 self-managed patrol teams, organizing patrols in communes and towns. Members have joined the team to provide information to the police. In 2024 alone, 37 pieces of information were provided, and 24 cases of land disputes and internal family conflicts were coordinated to mediate. These results have contributed to ensuring security and order in Nam Sach district.
Education, transformation
One of the outstanding features of the Nam Sach District Veterans Association is its good work in reconciliation, reformation and education of offenders in the community. With prestige, experience and tolerance, the association members have participated in reforming and educating many local offenders to become good people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi H. in Tran Phu commune was very sad because her child, who was studying at the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education in Nam Sach district, dropped out of school to follow bad friends, play around, and hang out. Her family tried many times to dissuade her, but her child did not change.
Upon learning of the incident, members of the Commune Veterans Association visited the house many times to encourage, promote, and motivate her. Ms. H's child returned to school to study and had less contact with bad friends. In addition to Ms. H's child, the Commune Veterans Association successfully educated and reformed 5 out of 7 teenagers who showed signs of being bad, helping them return to school and work normally. The remaining 2 cases left home and did not contact their families.
Rehabilitating retarded youth is not only a regular task but also a breakthrough work of the Nam Sach Veterans Association in 2024. In all communes and towns, rehabilitating retarded youth clubs have been established; helping those who have completed their prison sentences to reintegrate into the community.
Participating in the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents is an activity of important social significance. However, the biggest difficulty in the process of mobilizing is approaching the children because they often have an evasive and uncooperative attitude. Therefore, the association's cadres determined that this is not a job that can be done in just a day or two, but a long-term rehabilitation process that requires perseverance to "slowly penetrate the soil". With that goal, during the year, the Veterans Association coordinated to rehabilitate 104 retarded juveniles, reaching nearly 70% of the total number of these subjects. After rehabilitating, the juveniles had a clear change in their awareness.
“Whether in wartime or peacetime, the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers are always present in every veteran. Therefore, ensuring security and order, helping and reforming wrongdoers to maintain peace in the village is always the duty of old soldiers like us,” said Mr. Luu Minh Duc, Chairman of the Nam Sach District Veterans Association.
