Dak Son lithophone, Dong Son bronze drum and jar, Long Giao bronze pangolin statue... are newly recognized thousand-year-old national treasures.

On December 31, 2024, the Prime Minister recognized 33 national treasures in 2024, bringing the total number of treasures in Vietnam to 270. Among the treasures recognized this time, there are many artifacts thousands of years old, including the Vu Ban bronze drum, belonging to the Dong Son culture, 3rd - 2nd century BC, currently kept at the Ha Nam Provincial Museum. The drum was discovered by Mr. Nguyen Van Hung and Tran Dinh Do in 2015 when converting a field into a fish pond.
The front of the Vu Ban bronze drum is decorated with a 16-pointed star in the middle and 19 decorative rings. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, when the excavator dug to a depth of 1 meter, the drum was discovered. When it was dug up, only the face and the body remained. He then reported it to the authorities and brought it to the Ha Nam Museum for preservation.
Dong Son bronze drum, dated 3rd - 2nd century BC, in the private collection of Mr. Luong Hoang Long, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province. The bronze drum is low, round-faced, the edge of the face has not yet extended to the outer body, the back of the drum is shaped like a truncated cone, the legs are flared and low. The drum has two pairs of symmetrical double straps across the body, decorated with rice flowers. The Dong Son bronze drum is an original artifact, passed down by the family to Mr. Luong Hoang Long. The drum is in almost perfect condition. The age of the drum has been assessed by experts on Dong Son culture, alloy composition analyzed, and compared with published official documents.
The patterns on the Dong Son bronze drum belong to the Kinh Hoa collection. The drum is still intact, with a cracked handle and some peeling, dating from the 3rd - 2nd century BC, currently kept in the private collection of Nguyen Van Kinh, Hanoi. According to the Department of Cultural Heritage, the Dong Son bronze drum (Kinh Hoa collection) has been researched and appraised by many experts on drums and Dong Son culture. The researchers all agree that this is a typical Dong Son drum.
Dong Son bronze jar, dated 3rd - 2nd century BC, currently kept in the private collection of Luong Hoang Long, Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province. According to the Department of Cultural Heritage, the jar is still relatively intact. To date, there has been no bronze jar similar in shape, size, decorative patterns and sculptures to the jar.
In the middle of the jar lid is a star (symbol of the sun) with 14 pointed, embossed wings. Between the star wings are peacock feather patterns. Around the star pattern are long dots, triangles, concentric circles... The jar lid has a statue of four hunting dogs with slender bodies, two raised ears, and pointed tails.
The Dak Son lithophone, 3,500 - 3,000 years old, is currently kept at the Dak Nong Provincial Museum. The lithophone set consists of 16 bars, of which 11 are intact and 5 are nearly intact. The instrument was discovered in Dak Son, Nam Xuan Commune, Krong No District, Dak Nong Province, when people were digging holes to plant pepper to a depth of 50 - 90 cm. After that, the provincial museum coordinated with the Southern Institute of Social Sciences to appraise, measure the sound frequency and complete the dossier to recognize the treasure.
Bronze statue of Long Giao pangolin, dated 1st - 2nd century, currently kept at Dong Nai Museum. The bronze statue of Long Giao pangolin is cast from a multi-gill wax mold, belongs to the round statue line, in a standing, balanced posture, made of brass. The head is long and small, the snout is long, slightly open, the eyes are small, the two ears have a round rim like a ring. From the neck to the tail of the pangolin statue, the scales are stacked on top of each other in fairly even rows (the belly has no scales), the body is large and tapered towards the tail, at the end of the belly, adjacent to the tail, there is a deep hole, leading into the abdominal cavity. The bronze statue of Long Giao pangolin has four legs, the two front legs are larger and higher than the hind legs, but does not show 5 fingers and sharp claws like the real thing
The head of Linh Son Bac Buddha statue, dating from the 1st - 3rd century, is currently kept at the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board, An Giang province. The artifact is a completely crafted round statue, depicting the head of the Buddha with a five-headed Naga snake arch spreading from behind to form a canopy over the Buddha's head. The artifact was discovered during an archaeological excavation of Linh Son Bac relic (Oc Eo - Ba The relic site).
The Go Cay Tram jar tomb, dating back to the 4th-5th century, is currently kept at the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board, An Giang Province. The Go Cay Tram jar tomb was found during an excavation in 2018, conducted by Vietnamese and Korean archaeologists, at the Go Cay Tram relic in the Oc Eo - Ba The special national relic site.

Statue of Avalokitesvara of Bac Binh, dated 8th - 9th century, currently kept at Binh Thuan Provincial Museum. The artifact is a round statue depicting Avalokitesvara in an upright position with four arms. The artifact has been broken from below the ankle, a large part of the right arm.
