Traditional beauty

Every Tet holiday, Mr. Dang Ba Minh Cong (born in 1998, in Hai Duong City) sets aside time to go to the pagoda on the first day of spring to pray for a peaceful new year. In addition, he still maintains the beautiful tradition of "the first day of Tet is for father, the second day of Tet is for mother, the third day of Tet is for teacher" to wish grandparents, relatives, teachers, and friends a new year of peace and prosperity.

Wearing ao dai and going to the pagoda on the first day of spring is a beautiful tradition that Mr. Cong has maintained for many years.

And one thing he can't forget during Tet is wearing Ao Dai - the traditional costume of the nation.

"After a year of hard work, Tet is an occasion for people to ask about each other and wish each other good things," said Mr. Cong. He wants to contribute to promoting the cultural tradition imbued with national identity, inspiring people to love their homeland and country, to be more proud of the customs and beauty of Tet in the past.

Mr. Truong Tuan Vinh (born in 2004, in Tu Ky district) feels happier and warmer when wrapping Chung cakes with his family, gathering around the fire in the cold weather of the days before Tet.

Every Tet holiday, Mr. Vinh usually wraps 100-200 banh chung.

Since his junior high school days, Vinh has known how to wrap banh chung thanks to his grandfather's guidance. Not only did he wrap banh chung with his family, he also participated in wrapping at the Heart Connection Club (Quang Trung commune, Tu Ky) and in the school's competition.

The meat is carefully marinated with pepper and a little spice, the green beans are steamed and mashed with pepper to bring out the aroma.

“Every year I wrap 100-200 banh chung for Tet,” Vinh said. He can do everything from cutting and washing dong leaves to scooping out the cakes.

Although he is young but has many years of experience in making banh chung, Mr. Vinh estimates that each banh chung consists of 0.3 kg of sticky rice, 0.1 kg of meat and 0.1 kg of green beans. He usually wraps the cake in a mold to make the cake square. Mr. Vinh shares the secret to having delicious banh chung: marinate the meat carefully with pepper and a little seasoning, steam the green beans, and mash them with pepper to bring out the aroma.

New Year's Eve

From traditional ao dai costumes, many young people have creative ways to catch the "trend"

Tet is a time for young people to “relax” after a long busy year. With a dynamic personality, constantly approaching the latest trends, young people always have their own ways to create an impression on Tet. Young people “show off” a lot of “virtual life” photos on social networks at the beginning of the new spring.

This year, along with the boom of traditional costume photography, the ao dai and ao tac have been strongly revived, bearing a pure Vietnamese mark.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung, a photographer in Ninh Giang district, said: "Taking photos of Tet Ao Dai has been around for many years, but this year young people tend to take photos in the traditional style of the 80s and 90s, with accessories such as scarves and glasses."

To preserve the memories of Tet with her friends, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Linh (born in 2006, in Hai Duong City) and her friends went to Hai Duong Museum to take photos. The group of 6 friends rented ao dai, experienced and took photos in the spaces in the museum.

Linh's group also took the opportunity to experience, take photos at the museum, and film TikTok "trends".

In addition, you can be creative and make clips with "hot trend" Tet songs on TikTok. This is both a way to connect with friends and promote the image of Hai Duong when these clips are spread on social networks.

Ms. Thuy Linh and her friends invited each other to film TikTok trends during Tet at Hai Duong Museum

“We wanted to take nostalgic Tet photos in an old space. When we arrived at the Hai Duong Museum, we also saw children wrapping banh chung and playing tug of war, so the Tet atmosphere was very bustling,” Thuy Linh shared.

If the traditional Tet brings warmth and familiarity with rice trays, banh chung or lucky money, cakes and jams, many young people today celebrate Tet more interestingly, bringing traditional beauty more vividly on social networks.

This year, Hai Duong Provincial Museum has many creative Vietnamese Tet spaces.

Through their creativity, the younger generation is finding ways to renew traditional values. Customs such as going to the temple in the spring, worshiping ancestors, cleaning the house... are still maintained and renewed by livestreaming, taking photos or recording videos. The important thing is to still keep the spirit of Tet.

“I feel happy because I can create a Tet that is both traditional and fresh,” Thuy Linh said.

In the mind of every Vietnamese, Tet Nguyen Dan is always the most anticipated time of the year, an occasion for families to reunite and joyfully welcome the new spring with their loved ones. Although life has changed a lot, the traditional culture of the nation during Tet is still preserved and passed down in every family.
