Hiring house cleaners through apps is becoming increasingly popular with young people, especially during Tet. Instead of cleaning by themselves, they are willing to spend money to 'buy peace of mind'.

1.7 million VND is the amount that Ha Trang (26 years old, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) paid for a professional house cleaning service during this year's Lunar New Year. This is the cost for 3 housekeepers to clean her family's 100 m2 apartment within 3 hours.

“Every year, my parents give me the task of cleaning the house during Tet. This year, I decided to spend money to buy peace of mind,” Trang shared.

Instead of scrubbing wooden chairs and scrubbing toilets, this 26-year-old office worker can spend her time dyeing her hair, getting her nails done and going to the spa. With 1.7 million VND, Ha Trang can escape the situation of hugging her laptop all year and holding a rag during Tet.

Cleaning the house at the end of the year has become a nightmare for many young people. Whether living with family or alone, Gen Z still feels pressured to keep the house neat and tidy for the Lunar New Year.

During the busiest time of the year, some decide to book services through popular cleaning apps. They think it is a worthy amount of money to free up labor.

While most people were satisfied with the cleaning package they booked, many were not satisfied with the quality of service near the Lunar New Year.

Liberation of labor

According to the reporter's records, some applications providing house cleaning services such as bTaskee and JupViec offer basic cleaning packages with prices starting from 360,000 VND/2 hours for apartments under 60 m2. During holidays and Tet, the cost can increase by 20%.

For deeper cleaning needs at the end of the year, the general cleaning service package starts at around 1.2 million VND/3 hours, with a team of 2 employees. The tasks include dusting, cleaning the ceiling, wiping walls, glass doors, and cleaning areas such as the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and collecting trash...

In addition to the regular cleaning packages, there are additional options such as air conditioner cleaning, sofa cleaning, or monthly cleaning subscription.

Some services also offer a feature that allows customers to choose their own staff for an additional cost of VND20,000/time. In particular, if the house has pets, the cost can increase by about VND30,000/time.

Nhi Dao (28 years old, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) is among the young customers who use cleaning services for their rented house before returning home for Tet. Specifically, she and her roommate booked a cleaning package for the entire 3-storey house at a cost of 800,000 VND for the 2nd floor and 224,000 VND for the ground floor.

She said the team of 2 employees arrived on time as scheduled on the app, cleaned every corner of the house, making her especially satisfied, deciding to tip more, bringing the total cost to 1.2 million VND.

“This cost is not too high for me. My friends spend up to 3 million VND to clean a 2-bedroom apartment,” Nhi shared.

On weekends, she often returns to her hometown. Meanwhile, on weekdays, after work, she said she no longer has enough energy to clean the entire 3-story house and usually only cleans the bedroom.

“We are both women and weak, cleaning the whole house takes a lot of time. So we decided to hire a service and split the cost,” she said.

In addition, Nhi shared that booking through a popular cleaning app helps her feel more secure. Because if there is a problem, Nhi can call the hotline to report and get support.

Nhi has used house cleaning services many times before and had some unpleasant experiences. For example, some people asked for more money than the agreed upon cost or came to clean the house but complained that the room was dirty, making Nhi, who paid for the service, feel uncomfortable. However, she continued to use the service because “there are different people, you can’t generalize”.

For her, hiring a cleaning service is the ideal solution to save time and effort, especially during the busy year-end season. The office worker said she would not hesitate to give extra tips if the cleaning staff worked quickly, cleanly and carefully.

Similar to Nhi Dao, on January 19, Thanh Truong (28 years old, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) spent 300,000 VND to hire a cleaning service for a 15 m2 rented room with 3 glass walls.

This was the first time he tried the service, with the desire to refresh his living space before returning home for Tet and ensure the room was clean and tidy when he returned after the holiday.

According to Thanh Truong's records, the cleaning staff cleaned everything as expected. The total cleaning time was only 2 hours, much faster than he could have done it himself.

After a smooth experience, he considered using this service more often.

This marketing specialist often prioritizes his free time for gym, foreign language learning or traveling. Therefore, regularly cleaning a rented room with lots of plants, pets and large glass walls is not easy.

“I think after Tet I will schedule 2-3 times a month. Cleaning is necessary, but if I am too busy, I am willing to hand it over to a professional,” he shared.

Potential risks

Before using the room cleaning service during Tet, Thanh Truong admitted that she felt worried about this decision.

Specifically, his private room has many imported art toys from abroad, which are quite rare and difficult to preserve. Although he can tell the cleaning staff to be careful during the cleaning process, he still feels uneasy.

In addition, Thanh Truong also understands the psychology of cleaning staff who do not like to be reminded or scrutinized, so he is reluctant to say it many times. In case they accidentally damage something, he also does not have the heart to demand compensation or complain.

“Every time the cleaners touch the expensive art toys, my heart beats fast, but there is nothing I can do,” said the 28-year-old marketing specialist.

Meanwhile, Ha Trang had trouble with the cleaning service package she had booked. According to the plan, she asked her parents to stay home and look after the 3 cleaning staff, and took the opportunity to go out and do personal work, saving time during this time.

When she returned home, Ha Trang immediately heard complaints from her parents. Her parents said that the team worked carelessly during the peak Tet holiday season, not cleaning every corner as expected.

In addition, limited time also prevented Trang's parents from asking for more, so they had to let them go without feeling satisfied.

“I thought I could help my family avoid arguments by spending money. However, my family argued even more. My mistake was not being home to personally supervise the cleaning,” the office worker shared.

After this time, Ha Trang said she will learn from her experience and be present at home to closely observe the cleaning work of the service staff on future occasions. This will help her ensure that her house is as clean as she wants, while avoiding unnecessary losses and risks.
