Question: I am 80 years old, a poor household and have no children. Am I eligible for monthly social assistance?

Trshe replied:Article 5 of Decree 20/2021/ND-CP dated March 15, 2021 of the Government stipulates social assistance policies for social protection beneficiaries (amended and supplemented by Decree No. 76/2024/ND-CP). Accordingly, the elderly in one of the following cases are entitled to monthly social allowance:
a) Elderly people who are poor and have no one with the obligation and right to support them, or have someone with the obligation and right to support them but this person is receiving monthly social allowance.
b) Elderly people aged 75-80 years old, poor households, near-poor households not specified in Point a of this Clause, living in communes and villages of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas with special difficulties.
c) People aged 80 years or older who are not subject to the provisions of Point a of this Clause and do not have a pension, monthly social insurance allowance, or monthly social allowance.
d) Elderly people from poor households, without anyone with the obligation and right to support them, without conditions to live in the community, eligible for admission to social assistance facilities but have someone to raise and care for them in the community.
Pursuant to Clause 5, Article 5 of the above Decree, you are eligible for monthly social allowance. You can submit your application to the Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune where you reside for consideration and settlement.
