Dang Quoc Vinh, a former student of class 12A, Ninh Giang High School, has excelled in becoming the valedictorian of the Computer Science major - the major with the highest standard score at the University of Technology in 2023. He took a photo with his homeroom teacher.
With the advantage of being one of 12 candidates nationwide with a score of 10 in math in the 2023 high school graduation exam, calculated according to the Hanoi University of Science and Technology's own formula, in which the math score is doubled, Vinh became the valedictorian of Hanoi University of Science and Technology with 29.47 points in block A00 (math, physics, chemistry) and 29.65 points in block A01 (math, physics, English). Meanwhile, both valedictorians of the 2023 high school graduation exam block A00 failed their first choice to enter the computer science major of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, partly because both of them only scored 9.6 points in math.
Sharing with Hai Duong Newspaper reporters, Vinh said that the joy of him being the valedictorian of the 3 exam groups (A00, A01, B00) for the 2023 high school graduation exam in Hai Duong province had not yet subsided when on the afternoon of August 22, his family received more good news. "Before that, my mother and I were very worried because computer science usually requires very high scores. Yesterday afternoon, someone from Hanoi University of Science and Technology called to inform me that I was the valedictorian of this major, I was very happy."
As soon as she knew the benchmark score, Vinh's mother called Vinh's father, who was working in the military in Bac Giang, to tell him. Vinh's older sister, who studied at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, was also excited to share the joy with her brother. Everyone in the family promised to give Vinh a worthy reward.
Vinh registered for 5 admission wishes, wish 1 for computer science, wish 2 for University of Technology (Hanoi National University), wish 3 for mathematics and informatics, wish 4 for information technology, wish 5 for automation. Except for wish 2, the remaining 4 wishes are all for Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Dang Quoc Vinh was awarded at the 2022-2023 school year summary conference of the Hai Duong Department of Education and Training.
In the thinking assessment test of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vinh scored 95.95 points (on a scale of 100) and was the candidate with the second highest score in all three rounds of thinking assessment tests of this school. If based on the thinking assessment test score, Vinh would still pass the computer science major, because the standard score according to this method is 83.9/100 points. With a score of 120/150 points in the ability assessment test, Vinh could also easily be admitted to the University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Vinh is passionate about technology and has long cherished the dream of becoming a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Vinh has planned to achieve this goal since grade 10. His strengths are math and English, but Vinh studies well and is good at all subjects. Therefore, he can achieve high results in both his academic record, high school graduation exam, and ability and thinking assessment. His strengths are in natural sciences, but his score in literature on the high school graduation exam is also very impressive with 8.25 points.
Vinh studies regularly and well in all subjects, but his schedule does not include studying late or staying up too late. The latest time every day is just after 12 am. Vinh wakes up at around 5:30 am to prepare for school. “I try to listen and grasp the knowledge in class, and take advantage of this time to ask questions to my teachers. I arrange the remaining time reasonably to study the subjects and review questions for the ability and thinking assessment exams.”
With this learning secret, Vinh has achieved many achievements in excellent student competitions at district and provincial levels. His average math score for all 3 years of high school is 10 points, and his final grade is 9 or higher. The above achievements are the result of efforts and training that Vinh has been influenced to some extent by his mother, who is a teacher.
Ms. Luu Hai Vinh, Ninh Giang High School, Vinh's homeroom teacher and math teacher, was very proud when her student continuously reported good news. "Vinh is a good student but very modest, progressive, and willing to share with teachers. He is emotional, enthusiastic in helping friends, and is loved by his friends," said Ms. Vinh.
Vinh revealed: “I currently have no intention of studying abroad, but will try to research and study in the country. Partly because I want to be close to my family.”
The road ahead is still full of obstacles, but Vinh will try his best to achieve his dream of becoming a programmer in the future. Vinh said he will stay in the school dormitory. Here he will have more favorable conditions to learn and explore.
