When it comes to common traffic violations, people often think of speeding, but few people know that driving too slowly can also result in a fine.

Driving below the minimum speed limit can result in a fine of up to VND1,000,000.

Driving too slowly is also considered a traffic violation. When a vehicle is traveling slower than the minimum speed limit, it not only impedes traffic but can also cause accidents.

Under current regulations, driving below the minimum speed limit on certain sections of road can result in a fine. Each country, and even each province or city, may have different regulations on minimum speeds on different types of roads. In Vietnam, speed signs often clearly state the minimum speed limit on each section of road, and driving below this speed is considered a violation.

According to Clause 3, Article 6 of Decree 168, for cars: Fine from 800,000 VND to 1,000,000 VND if:

- Driving below the minimum speed on a road section with a minimum speed limit.

- Driving at a lower speed than other vehicles traveling in the same direction without moving to the right lane of your direction, except in cases where other vehicles traveling in the same direction are traveling at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit.

According to point k, clause 1; point c, clause 2, article 7 of Decree 168, for motorbikes:

- Fine from 200,000 VND to 400,000 VND if driving below the minimum speed on a road section with a minimum speed limit.

- Fine from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND if driving at low speed without keeping to the right side of the road, causing traffic obstruction.

According to point d, clause 3, article 8 of Decree 168, for specialized motorbikes: Fine from 800,000 VND to 1,000,000 VND if driving below the minimum speed on a road section with a minimum speed limit.

Therefore, in case of an unavoidable situation that requires driving at low speed (such as technical problems or bad weather), the driver should immediately turn on the hazard lights to notify other vehicles on the road. Furthermore, the driver should find a way to quickly move into the appropriate lane, with the least impact on the general traffic flow, to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
