Mercedes recalls nearly 3,000 cars in Vietnam

C-class, E-class, GLC, GLS... lines have errors related to the fuel pump system or the tow hook thread hole on the front crossbar.

Mercedes is recalling a total of 2,909 vehicles of all types to fix errors, including both imported and domestically assembled vehicles. Of these, 2,014 C200 (W206 generation), E180, E200, E300 (W213 generation) and GLC200 (X253 generation) vehicles have faulty fuel pump systems, which could cause the vehicles to stop working. These vehicles were domestically produced between August 2021 and September 2022.

In addition, 244 AMG GT 53 4Matic, GLS 450 4Matic (X167 generation), Maybach GLS 480 4Matic S450 (V223 generation), V250 were also recalled. These imported models were recalled for the same reason and production time as the C200, E180... models above.

According to the German automaker, the fuel pump in the affected vehicles may not meet technical standards. The fuel pump function may be impaired under certain conditions or even stop working. In this case, the vehicle may stall, posing a risk of collision or accident while driving on the road.

The remaining 651 Mercedes vehicles on the recall list are the latest GLC200 and GLC300 4Matic (X254 generation). The cause of the recall is determined to be that the threaded hole for the tow hook on the front crossbar may not meet technical specifications. The company does not rule out the possibility that the bolt connection will loosen under load, leading to the risk of an accident.

All of the above vehicles will be recalled and repaired free of charge by the company's dealers from December 8. The repair time for each vehicle is approximately 1.5-4 hours, depending on the type.

Mercedes said it has not recorded any incidents related to the above errors. The company is recalling to fix them as a precautionary measure.

Mercedes is the luxury brand that assembles the most cars in Vietnam. The factory in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City is where the C-class, E-class, GLC (except the coupe versions) and most recently the AMG C 43 are manufactured. BMW, the three-pointed star brand's biggest rival, is having some models assembled by Truong Hai at the factory in Quang Nam, including the X3, X5, Series 3 and Series 5.
